The Wrong Girls, a new comedy-drama, reunites Alia Shawkat and Kristen Stewart, who starred together in The Runaways years ago. The project is set to release on  14 August 2026 and the story explores friendship, identity, and the unexpected turns that can change relationships. Shawkat's participation is especially notable, as the film offers yet another chance to work with Stewart, combining their past chemistry from the screen with a new story and a new setting.

Alia Shawkat has revealed during a recent screening for their upcoming Dylan Meyer-written/directed Neon stoner comedy that she was barely allowed to talk while filming 2010’s The Runaways, in which she starred alongside Kristen Stewart. The actress spoke about the strange experience when she discussed her reunion with Stewart in The Wrong Girls, saying she was told on her first day that her character would not have any lines. 

“We wanted to kick it forever, and then we got to make a movie, which is like the best way to kick it with anyone,” Stewart reflected on their long-standing friendship and said making a movie together was the perfect way to spend time together again. 

Recalling in the video, Shawkat further explained that she had already learned the songs for The Runaways before finding out that her character would have to remain silent. What made the experience all the more memorable was that both Shawkat and Stewart were very young when they worked on The Runaways. The Twilight actress starred as Joan Jett in the musical drama about the rise of the pioneering all-female rock band. Despite their limited screen time together, the actresses bonded off-screen, and their upcoming reunion in The Wrong Girls has them sharing a very different kind of screen partnership.
