Speaking on Aspire With Emma Grede, Jennifer Garner opened up about the realization that followed her separation from Affleck how it made her rethink her career.

“I panicked when I was first out of my marriage and realized I had taken such a step back in my work,” she said, explaining that she suddenly had concerns about how long Hollywood would continue to provide dependable opportunities.

Garner further explained her strategic approach during the Aspire With Emma Grede podcast.

“I can work in Los Angeles. I can’t leave these kids for six months at a time.” Her priority shifted to balancing motherhood with her career. “I have to take care of myself. I have to take care of these kids,” she stated.

This mindset led to targeted projects like Once Upon a Farm, co-founding the children’s food company in 2017, and her business involvement became part of a broader strategy for building financial stability outside traditional Hollywood work. Garner described her post-divorce approach as becoming “very calculated,” with decisions shaped around both income and family life.

That renewed focus on stability has also shaped the projects Garner is choosing today, including an ambitious Netflix comedy that puts her back in the spotlight.

One Attempt Remaining brings Jennifer Garner back to Netflix

Jennifer Garner is set to star in and produce One Attempt Remaining, an upcoming Netflix comedy directed by Kay Cannon. The film pairs Garner with John Cena as a divorced couple who discover that cryptocurrency they won during a wild cruise night is now worth millions. There is one problem: they have forgotten the password, leaving them with three days to retrace the events of that night before their access expires.

The cast also features Kate McKinnon, Aimee Carrero, Yara Shahidi, Nyambi Nyambi, Larry Wilmore, and Gilles Marini. Garner will produce alongside Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Nicole King, while the screenplay comes from Joe Boothe, Alexa Alemanni, and Cannon. Production began in 2026, making the project a significant continuation of Garner’s relationship with Netflix.

The movie also unites Garner and Cena. Netflix has previously featured Garner in Yes Day, The Adam Project, and Family Switch, giving her a well-established presence on the platform. After confronting uncertainty about her professional future, she is now balancing acting, producing, entrepreneurship, and motherhood on her own carefully considered terms.
