The Bill Engvall Show aired from 2007 to 2009 as a traditional multicam sitcom featuring comedian Bill Engvall as family patriarch Bill Pearson, navigating suburban life with his wife and three children. Much of its charm came from the sibling chemistry between Lauren, Trent and Bryan Pearson, played by Jennifer Lawrence, Graham Patrick Martin and Skyler Gisondo.

Their playful arguments and everyday mischief gave the family a believable rhythm that extended beyond the script. Years later, Gisondo has recalled what it was like growing up alongside Lawrence on the TBS sitcom.

Describing a friendship that genuinely felt like having an older sister.

Skyler Gisondo revisited his Bill Engvall Show memories during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he reflected on working with Lawrence during their childhood years.

“I remember we like, I think, fought like brother and sister,” he said. “We were like very close.” For Gisondo, the experience carried a special kind of nostalgia. He was nine years old while filming the series and remembered the production as a live-audience multicam sitcom.

“I lived for the Friday nights,” he recalled, describing the excitement of performing in front of spectators each week. Lawrence and Graham Patrick Martin were several years older, which made them especially fascinating figures to the young actor. Gisondo admitted that he idolized both performers and regularly wanted to spend time with them.

“I just thought her and Graham were like the two coolest people in the world,” he recalled.

The memories also capture a fascinating moment before Lawrence became an Oscar-winning star. During the sitcom's run, she appeared in Winter’s Bone, a role that marked an important stage in her early career. Gisondo remembered how dramatically different that film was from the family comedy they were making together.

That childhood connection now sits alongside Gisondo’s growing presence in another major screen universe.

Skyler Gisondo enters the DC Universe through James Gunn's upcoming HBO Max series The People vs. Gorilla Grodd, reprising his Jimmy Olsen role from 2025's Superman film. The actor will headline this investigative procedural focusing on the notorious telepathic gorilla villain Gorilla Grodd.

The series continues Jimmy Olsen's investigative journalism career while introducing supernatural and metahuman elements through the Grodd storyline, allowing Gisondo to showcase dramatic range beyond comedic moments from Superman. 

Gisondo's casting demonstrates Gunn's strategy of developing characters across multiple formats, creating continuity between films and television that rewards dedicated viewers with interconnected storytelling. The actor's previous work in dramatic television series prepared him for leading this investigation-focused narrative while maintaining Jimmy Olsen's characteristic optimism and resourcefulness that audiences appreciated in Superman.
