A mission to find the next 007 at Amazon MGM is well underway. After acquiring the creative rights to the iconic spy franchise, the studio has been moving carefully yet decisively toward a new James Bond film. And this comes after Daniel Craig hung his coat following his fifth and final James Bond movie, No Time to Die.

The studio has already brought in Dune director, Denis Villeneuve, to helm the project while Peaky Blinders mastermind creator, Steven Knight, to write the script. Now, while speculation continues to swirl around who will step into Bond’s shoes next, Amazon MGM has dropped a superficially exciting update.

Amazon MGM Studios executives were present at the recent CinemaCon event to present their new slate of exciting films and shows. However, they sensed the interest in updates on the next James Bond movie. Head of Film at the studio, Courtenay Valenti, addressed the anticipation, urging fans to remain patient.

“Don’t get too excited. Please know that we’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect. It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly,” Valenti said, as reported by Variety.

Valenti further added, “That film is coming, and when the time is right, we’ll have much more to share.”

But that is unlikely to stop the wave of speculation around who could be the next James Bond. It seemingly began after Jeff Bezos shared the news of Amazon’s acquisition of creative control of James Bond movies and asked netizens to choose their 007. Names like Henry Cavill, Har, James McAvoy, Theo James, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Idris Elba have all been thrown into the conversation.

Apart from the search for the next James Bond, the studio is also looking for the perfect cast around James Bond, including a formidable villain. A report from Radar Online suggests that Wagner Moura could be in talks to join the film. And he might be the perfect choice to take on the role of the antagonist.

“He has a natural warmth and charm that draws viewers in, but at the same time, there's always an edge underneath it that suggests the character could turn dangerous at any moment," the outlet's source said.
