Apparently, three years is not long enough for Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal to escape marriage on screen. After playing the troubled, isolated couple Junior and Hen in Foe, the Irish stars are husband and wife again in The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event. This time, however, Saoirse Ronan is happily returning beside one of her closest friends.

Their chemistry is back, their marriage is back, and judging by the excitement, somebody forgot to invite the audience and the performers to calm down.

Some screen marriages need a sequel, and Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal have apparently been handed one with impeccable timing. While speaking to Entertainment Tonight about her role in Sam Mendes’ The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, Saoirse Ronan reflected on returning to the screen alongside her close friend. Their reunion already sounds wonderfully effortless.

“It’s a completely different world, but, like, we’re still married,” Saoirse Ronan joked, laughing at the strange continuity between Foe and their latest project. She explained that their earlier film gave them an unusually intimate working experience, with the pair together constantly on and off camera. This time, chemistry required no formal introduction.

While discussing the Beatles project and her portrayal of Linda McCartney with Entertainment Tonight, Saoirse Ronan made it clear that familiarity became their secret weapon. She and Paul Mescal are now genuinely close friends, so slipping back into an intimate performance came naturally. Apparently, three years did very little to interrupt their cinematic marriage.

Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal have managed the rare Hollywood trick of getting married twice without actually having to marry each other. Their Foe marriage was hardly a honeymoon: Henri and Junior were emotionally stranded, suspicious, and slowly suffocating beneath secrets. Romance was present, technically, but it was being treated rather badly by circumstances.

Then come Linda McCartney and Paul McCartney, who offer considerably better marital advertising. Their relationship was intimate, collaborative, and fiercely loyal, with Linda McCartney joining Wings and standing beside Paul McCartney through the Beatles breakup and beyond. Thus, Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal remain screen spouses, but their second marriage has considerably better chemistry, company, and odds.
