Besides Brown, Ernest Kingsley Jr. as George Washington, Rupert Graves as Mr. Goff, Iola Evans as Tanna Goff, Edward Bluemel as Billy McGee, Sharon Duncan Brewster as Miss Angie, Eddie Karanja as young George Washington, and Tom Ellis as Christopher Wilde make up the cast. 

Julian Rhind-Tutt as Erasmus Wilde, Billy Boyd as Willard, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Gaius, Shaunete Renee Wilson as Big Kit, Charles Dance as James Wilde, and Blainey Dorey as Porter round out the Washington Black cast. 20th Television, in collaboration with Indian Meadows Productions and The Gotham Group, is co-producing the Hulu series.

Hulu has recently set a date for Washington Black’s streaming debut, starring Sterling K. Brown. Washington Black is now slated for a July premiere, with all eight episodes launching on Wednesday, July 23. The Nova Scotia-filmed show will debut on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally. 

Washington Black previously received a straight series-to-series order. Selwyn Hinds, Kim Harrison, Brown, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Wanuri Kahui, Mo Marable, Rob Seidenglanz, Jeremy Bell, Lindsay Williams, D.J. Goldberg, Jennifer Johnson, and Anthony Hemingway serve as executive producers. Hinds and Harrison are co-showrunners of Washington Black.

Washington Black, Hulu’s upcoming series, is based on Edi Edugyan’s best-selling novel of the same name. Edugyan is a co-producer on the show. Washington Black follows the 19th-century tale of Washington “Wash” Black, an eleven-year-old boy born on a Barbados sugar plantation. Despite his humble beginnings, his prodigious scientific genius sets him on an unexpected trail of destiny.

After a harrowing incident pushes Wash to flee, he takes on a globe-trotting adventure that eventually shapes his understanding of family, freedom, and love. While Wash navigates uncharted territories and defies odds, he finds the emancipation to dream of a future beyond the confines of the contingency and circumstance he was born into.
