Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have officially cast Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix as the young Ed and Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring: First Communion, the franchise's upcoming prequel that has now entered production. For more than a decade, The Conjuring has stood alongside modern horror landmarks, turning haunted houses, cursed relics, and demonic entities into one of cinema's most successful shared universes. Now, instead of chasing another possessed family, the franchise is walking back to where the legend of the Warrens first began.
Every haunting has an origin story. This time, it is not the demon that is being introduced, but the people who made audiences believe they could face one.

According to an exclusive report from Dread Central, Garrett Wareing, known for The Long Walk and Manifest, has been cast as a young Ed Warren, while Amanda Fix, whose recent credits include Orphan Black: Echoes, will portray a young Lorraine Warren. Filming is already underway on The Conjuring: First Communion, marking the first time new actors will headline the franchise's central paranormal investigators.

Dread Central's announcement naturally raises another question that Warner Bros. is keeping close to its chest. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga transformed Ed and Lorraine into two of horror's defining modern screen duos across multiple films, and there is still no confirmation on whether either actor will appear as older versions of the characters. Even a brief appearance would create a symbolic bridge between the franchise that audiences know and the story that is only beginning.
The demons may already have a name. The real mystery is discovering which case first convinced the Warrens that evil could wear a human face.
What could The Conjuring: First Communion explore?
Warner Bros. has revealed almost nothing about the story, leaving the plot firmly under wraps. The prequel will be directed by Rodrigue Huart from a screenplay by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg. With no official synopsis available, speculation points toward an investigation from the Warrens' earliest years, long before audiences met them in James Wan's 2013 classic.

The timing also makes sense for the expanding Conjuring Universe. Including The Nun, Annabelle, The Curse of La Llorona, and the mainline films, the franchise has already grown into an eleven-film supernatural saga, placing it among horror's biggest cinematic series. Warner Bros. has also scheduled The Revenge of La Llorona for April 9, 2027, while The Conjuring: First Communion is set to haunt theaters on September 10, 2027, proving the studio has no intention of slowing its supernatural ambitions.
Whether this prequel uncovers the Warrens' very first encounter with the paranormal or introduces an entirely original case, it has the difficult task of honoring one of modern horror's most recognizable legacies.
