The Fast franchise has long lain in wait for a fitting end to an iconic journey that has spanned almost three decades and 10 installments. After much time spent in development, Vin Diesel and the makers finally sealed a script for the final movie, titled Fast Forever. The script is so good that it literally brought the actor to tears.

However, it needed a worthy wielder, so it was decided to bring back the Fast X director Louis Leterrier, who has recently given a massive hit with Netflix, The Last House.

Now, in a recent interview, it was revealed that the director has not read the script for the movie yet, but someone else has. 

Louis Leterrier, who was busy the past few weeks promoting his latest Netflix venture, The Last House, recently admitted to Polygon on August 3 that he has not read Mike Lesslie's moving script for Fast Forever. It is the same script that made Vin Diesel cry, and the director who is supposed to helm the project has not read the script. 

“I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t,” Leterrier said when asked about the script.

Leterrier acknowledged that he is "contracted" for Fast Forever in a different interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He also hinted that the delays are related to the necessity to "align our budgetary needs to the reality of the box office." His recent revelation about the script, though, has everyone in splits. 

He, however, teased a great ending to the story that the script offers further in the Polygon interview. He was thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Fast franchise, and he also expressed his love for Vin Diesel and Universal Studios. We have to just wait and watch how true Leterrier’s claim about the ending proves to be.

Vin Diesel Says ‘Fast Forever’ Script Left Him in Tears- “It’s the Best Script I’ve Read in Decades”

The movie that has made big promises through Fast X and Vin Diesel’s social media posts has been delayed several times now.

Vin Diesel revealed earlier this year that Fast Forever, which was originally anticipated to start production shortly after Fast X debuted in 2023, will be released in March 2028. However, there have been delays with the movie. With a cliffhanger that hinted at Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson's comebacks in two post-credit scenes, Fast X hinted at bringing back the heavy hitters of the franchise once again.  

In March 2026, Mike Lesslie was revealed as the screenwriter for the film. He reworked a script that had been written by Aaron Rabin and Zach Dean, the latter of whom was involved with the story for Fast X, according to sources who spoke with Variety. The wait has only made fans doubt the project ever making it to production, but Vin Diesel’s passion for the project seems to have kept the hope for the film afloat.
