Although it was hard for him to make sense of this intensely overwhelming feeling of accomplishment and equate it to winning an Oscar, he did it anyway in his heartfelt essay that entailed his earliest memory of being in Cannes and his firm stance on popular cinema being as artistic as any other genre.
Vin Diesel starts by recalling his first visit to Cannes for showcasing his 20-minute film, Multi-Facial, in 1995. He did not have much money at that time, as he was still a struggling actor who failed to get any roles, and that film was the only thing he had to show for his talent. Now, 31 years later, he has returned with his iconic film.
He is overjoyed to be back at the film festival for its 79th edition, where The Fast and the Furious is named a Cannes Classic. He also acknowledged that classic movies are getting harder to find. In real time, the conditions that give rise to them - patience, scale, and shared attention - are diminishing with time. However, the term automatically regains the weight it has been losing elsewhere when Cannes, of all places, deems something to be a "Classic."
The actor, making mainstream cinema for nearly three decades now, stood up for the format in this deeply felt writing.
Vin Diesel advocates for “Popular Cinema”
Twenty-five years ago, the original Fast movie served as a reminder to Hollywood of something it had long since forgotten. When produced with passion and conviction, popular cinema is not a subpar kind of art. It is the story presented to the entire community, something that a group of people can experience together, giving it the epithet of an art form that appeals to all and that is meant for all.

Vin Diesel’s Cannes premiere seems to be just like he manifested. Jordana Brewster just revealed that bringing Fast and Furious to Cannes for its 25th anniversary was something the actor had been planning for years, and it has now manifested into fruition. The next big thing for the franchise is its latest and final movie, Fast Forever, which has already locked in a release date.
