Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Set as Leads for Apple Studios’ Mysterious New Thriller

A new powerhouse cast is coming together for an upcoming sci-fi thriller on Apple TV+. Marvel stars Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who have dipped their feet in the world of superheroes, are well-versed and clearly know their way around the universe of powers. However, for this new series, the duo is set to join forces to traverse into a different universe.

And this one is filled with even more enigmatic powers, mysteries, and dangers. The award-winning cast was recently announced for the thriller show, which is based on a famous book.

Deadline recently announced that Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will lead the new Apple TV+ thriller series, Liminal. It is based on an AWA graphic novel, Telepaths by J. Michael Straczynski, Steve Epting, and Brian Reber. It follows a world where 10% of people suddenly gain telepathic powers due to a strange electromagnetic event, forcing Boston police officers to deal with a group led by an innocent prisoner, who is trying to escape because people with these abilities are now being hunted and feared.

Kirby is not a new name. She has previously appeared as Sue Storm in Fantastic Four: First Steps and as Princess Margaret in The Crown. And she will now star in the sci-fi project, which will be directed by Louis Leterrier. 

As for Abdul-Mateen II, he made waves early this year with the debut of the MCU TV series Wonder Man. The show was a massive success, and following this, he will also be part of Once Upon a Time In Hollywood sequel. He has also been part of several hit shows and movies, including Watchmen and Aquaman.

He is also part of one of the most anticipated movie, which is set to drop on Netflix soon.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s action thriller to join Netflix

Netflix is gearing up for its upcoming action thriller Man on Fire, which is based on A. J. Quinnell’s novel. The show stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the lead role. He plays the role of a Special Forces Mercenary, John Creasy, who is struggling with extreme PTSD and tries to rebuild his life.

He is also the executive producer of the show. Billie Boullet played the role of Poe Rayburn in the series, while Scoot McNairy, Bobby Cannavale, and Alice Braga are also part of the cast. Two of the seven episodes of the series are directed by Creed II director Steven Caple Jr., who is also the executive producer. The movie will be available to stream on Netflix on April 30, 2026.
