Joe Keery has revealed that Sadie Sink urged him to take the plunge into a Broadway debut. Stranger Things wrapped its five-season run nearly a year ago, yet the Hawkins family is still trading career tips. Sink, a veteran of both Broadway and the West End, clearly knows what a good leap looks like. Keery, meanwhile, shares the Hudson Theatre stage with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Allison Janney, Ed Harris, and Lily Rabe.

Broadway has plenty of nervous debutants, but Keery had a former Hawkins resident in his corner before the curtain rose.

Sadie Sink was the Stranger Things costar who encouraged Joe Keery to pursue theater. Sink, who played Max Mayfield opposite his Steve Harrington, has plenty of stage experience herself. Now, Keery is putting that advice into practice as Trip Wyeth, the easygoing youngest son caught between his parents and older sister in Other Desert Cities.

“[Sadie] had some good words of advice and really kind of urged me to do it,” Joe Keery told PEOPLE when asked about his Stranger Things costars with stage experience.

He added, “She thought I would have a nice time,” a low-pressure pitch from someone who knows the stage well.

PEOPLE noted that Sink, 24, made her Broadway debut as a child in the 2012 revival of Annie. Sink later appeared opposite Helen Mirren in The Audience and earned a Tony Award nomination for her performance in the 2025 play John Proctor Is the Villain. Keery caught up with her in London ahead of her Romeo & Juliet opening, and he has continued to turn to his Stranger Things co-stars for theater updates. He has also been texting Gaten Matarazzo, who is starring in a West End revival of Rent.

What is next for Joe Keery after Other Desert Cities

Joe Keery is set to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, October 26, alongside Billy Crystal. Meanwhile, he is making his Broadway debut in Other Desert Cities, which is scheduled to run through January 17, 2027. Outside of acting, Keery continues to make music as Djo, with his third album, 'The Crux,' released in April 2025. Although he has no immediate plans to star in a musical, he told PEOPLE that he is not ruling out the possibility.

Marvel rumors have also linked Keery to potential MCU roles, including Harry Osborn and Nova, though neither casting has been confirmed. In February 2026, he addressed the fan casting and suggested that timing tends to work itself out. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day now released without Keery in its cast, those rumors remain speculation rather than a confirmed career move. For now, the only leap on his calendar is the one Sadie Sink urged him to take, and it comes with a Hudson Theatre curtain call instead of a multiverse.
