Daniel Craig’s first outing as James Bond is about to hit theaters again. The transition from Pierce Brosnan’s final film, Die Another Day (2002), to Daniel Craig’s debut in Casino Royale (2006) has been one of the sharpest tonal resets in cinematic history. The new version swapped the fantastical plots and lighthearted escapism for an unpolished, brutal origin story where Bond earned his 00 status through lethal, hard-edged violence. And now that iconic debut is about to be back on the big screens in a freshly optimized 4K restoration.
Fans will get a chance to experience the tense poker showdowns in a packed theater all over again.
Casino Royale marks 20th anniversary with a re-release
The official James Bond account recently made an announcement regarding the re-release.
“To celebrate its 20th anniversary, CASINO ROYALE returns to the big screen worldwide,” the official X page posted.
Although we do not have any dates for the release yet, some theater listings show dates in early October. Reports also suggest that the movie, that pulled in $606 million worldwide, has been given a new 4K restoration along with a remixed audio track.

The page also released a poster with the announcement, featuring Amazon MGM Studios and Park Circus logos. Even though Daniel Craig was not the fan-favorite choice when he first stepped into the franchise, with X-Men icons in consideration for the role, he went on to star in five Bond movies for 15 years. And now it is time for a new Bond to step in.
According to recent reports, screen tests for Amazon's new Bond is about to begin soon.
Updates on the upcoming James Bond
Puck News’ Matt Belloni shared in a report that test deals already going out and screen tests would likely begin right after the Casino Royale re-release. And while Bond writer Steven Knight is choosing to stay tight-lipped, Gary Oldman claimed on BBC Radio 4 that the studio has already "picked" its next Bond.

Producer Amy Pascal has also hinted at a casting announcement by late 2026. Keeping the recent developments in mind, it is clear that Amazon’s James Bond revival is set to pick up full steam following the Casino Royale re-release.
