With Toy Story 5 set to introduce a storyline centered on toys navigating a technology-driven world, Tony Hale recently reflected on why the franchise continues to connect with audiences decades after it first arrived in theaters. Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Hale explained that Pixar only revisits the series when there is a compelling reason to do so.
“The thing I love about Pixar is that they wouldn't have told another story if they didn't have a story to tell and look at our world technology is not going away, they don't bash technology but technology is never going to replace true connection,” he said.
His comments point to a theme that appears central to the upcoming film. While technology plays an increasingly important role in everyday life, the emotional bonds between people and toys, remain at the heart of the franchise. That focus on connection has helped Toy Story resonate with viewers for more than 30 years.
The studio’s commitment to preserving the magic of its stories extends far beyond the themes explored on screen.
Pixar reportedly used a secret version of the film to guard a major surprise
Pixar allegedly took extraordinary measures to keep one of Toy Story 5’s biggest surprises under wraps. During a SXSW London panel, VFX supervisor Thomas Jordan revealed that only a select group of people involved with the production were aware of a special musical addition to the film.
To prevent details from leaking, the studio reportedly created an alternate version of the movie that excluded the song entirely. According to Jordan, the secrecy intensified after Taylor Swift watched an early cut of the unfinished film, became inspired by the story, and later wrote 'I Knew It, I Knew You' before offering it to Pixar.
