Taylor Swift’s Toy Story 5 anthem has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Disney and Pixar a record they have never held before. The milestone arrives at a time when Toy Story 5 has already been dominating headlines through story reveals, returning cast members, and now its music. For a franchise that began with a pull-string cowboy and a space ranger arguing over who belonged in Andy’s room, the latest chapter is proving it can still make history three decades later.
For months, fans wondered whether Swift’s involvement would simply be another headline attached to a blockbuster sequel. Instead, the singer has delivered a moment that has become a story of its own.

Taylor Swift’s original track, ‘I Knew It, I Knew You,’ officially debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first song from any Disney animated or Pixar-produced film to enter the chart directly at the top spot. The achievement places the song in rare company alongside Encanto’s ‘We Do Not Talk About Bruno’ and Aladdin’s ‘A Whole New World,’ the only other Disney film songs to reach No. 1. However, neither debuted there, making Swift’s accomplishment unique in Disney history.
The song, co-written and co-produced with Jack Antonoff, leans into Taylor Swift’s country roots through banjo and pedal steel arrangements. Inspired by Jessie, the beloved cowgirl whose heartbreaking backstory in Toy Story 2 remains one of Pixar’s most emotional moments, the track arrived on June 5, 2026. Its success was fueled by 27.2 million official streams, 46.7 million radio audience impressions, and a music video packed with footage from across the Toy Story saga.
As impressive as the chart success is, it also adds another layer of anticipation around the film itself. If the soundtrack is already breaking records, audiences are naturally wondering whether the movie can deliver a similarly memorable chapter in Pixar history.
Woody and Buzz saddle up for another adventure
That excitement was amplified this week when Tom Hanks and Tim Allen appeared on Good Morning America to discuss their return as Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Allen admitted he initially hesitated about revisiting the franchise after the emotional endings of the previous films, particularly Toy Story 4. Yet both actors ultimately chose to continue the story that has defined much of modern animation.
"I loved (Toy Story 3, Toy Story 4) was, it was just so intense," Allen said.
The interview also offered a glimpse into their recording process. Hanks revealed that he often closes his eyes while recording because it helps him visualize Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang rather than focusing on the studio environment. Fans may be surprised to learn that the longtime co-stars usually record separately rather than together.

The fifth film will reunite Woody, Buzz, and Jessie while introducing a new challenge in the form of electronic tablet Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee. The character threatens to pull Bonnie’s attention away from her toys, giving the franchise a contemporary conflict rooted in technology and changing childhood habits.
With Toy Story 5 arriving in theaters on June 19, the franchise finds itself in a familiar position: blending nostalgia with something new. This time, however, it arrives carrying a historic Billboard record before audiences have even seen the film.
