It has been proving to be a phenomenal run for Toy Story 5 on the box office. Not only did the fifth installment of the franchise make $70 million in the United States during its second weekend, but it also made $159.1 million worldwide, increasing the Disney/Pixar film's total box office receipts to $585 million. The Andrew Stanton film is less than $3 million away from reaching the three-century milestone in the United States.
Toy Story 5's second weekend hold of -56% is exactly the same as Incredibles 2's. Incredibles 2 still has the best animated picture opening record, followed closely by Toy Story 5, and considering that, the numbers are not that bad for the movie. Imax screens helped the large format exhibitor make $24 million by contributing $900K globally.
After just 12 days in theaters, the fifth film in the generation-spanning franchise has earned $297 million domestically and $585 million worldwide, making it one of the biggest grossing films of the year. Additionally, Toy Story 5 is anticipated to become the largest entry in the 31-year-old franchise with an estimated $1.1-1.3B finish. For now, Toy Story 4 holds that record with $1.07 billion.
It is still a big acheivement for Toy Story 5 to push back as big of a release as DC’s Supergirl that had everything going for it in its marketing run.
Toy Story 5 edges past Supergirl
While Toy Story 5 continued to reign supreme at the box office, Supergirl had some difficulties during its weekend launch with $38 million domestically and $68 million internationally. Warner Bros.' Supergirl was aiming for a start of about $50 million prior to its release, but it came down to earth a little over the weekend.

A year after Superman earned $618 million worldwide, director Craig Gillespie's superhero film, starring Milly Alcock, is the second big-screen movie for DC Studios executives James Gunn and Peter Safran's planned slate. Anyhow, with Supergirl’s unfavorable word of mouth and online reviews, Toy Story 5 is supposed to soar higher and higher towards its big billion-dollar finish.
