Whether it is a hilarious bonus gag or a sneak peek at what lies ahead for the franchise, fans will hope that Pixar has one last surprise up its sleeve.

Much to fans' expectations, Toy Story 5 does indeed feature end-credits scenes. The film includes both a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene. The first is a mid-credits scene that shows the army of Buzz Lightyear.  The next scene, which plays after the credits, shows all the toys coming together to sing the Lilypad song. Unfortunately, both the mid-credits and post-credits scenes are simply funny bonus moments included in Toy Story 5. While neither scene sets up a sequel, they offer a charming dose of nostalgia that longtime fans are sure to appreciate.

As for the franchise's future, writer and director Andrew Stanton explained that the team always aims to give each Toy Story film a proper ending in case the next installment does not get made. However, he also acknowledged that there is always room for another adventure. Speaking to ScreenRant, Stanton said a sixth movie might be possible, although Toy Story 6 is not confirmed.

"So there was always that seed. It’s like a series that doesn’t know it’s going to get picked up for the next season," he said in an interview with ScreenRant.

While he seemed optimistic about the possibility of Toy Story 6, he did not have the same faith when speaking of spin-off projects.

Andrew Stanton talks about Toy Story Spin off

The Toy Story franchise has explored spin-offs in the past, with one of the most notable being Lightyear, which was released in 2022. However, the movie failed to meet box office expectations, reportedly resulting in a financial loss for several reasons. Looking back on the spin-off, writer and director Andrew Stanton explained that the team often discusses ideas for spin-offs but is careful about which ones they choose to pursue.

So, we just talk all the time, and we say, "Maybe not now" or "no" many, many times. But when we can smell something, we keep digging there, but we still don't push it forward until we know it's ready,” he said.

Although Lightyear underperformed in theaters, it posted impressive numbers after making its streaming debut. And that explains fans' love for the franchise and its beloved characters. So, while the studio is taking a cautious approach to expanding the universe, hopes for another spin-off or sequel are far from being dashed.
