Tom McCarthy Reunites with Awards Heavyweights for Ambitious New Dark Comedy Drama

Early whispers in the film industry should never be ignored, especially when a union of so many talents is involved. An impressive lineup of award-winning actors is set to come together for a single film, with the reins handed to none other than Oscar-winning director Tom McCarthy. The director is well known for his strong vision and storytelling in his films, including The Station Agent and The Visitor.

He also won the Academy Award for his film, Spotlight, in 2015. Now, he is gearing up for what could be yet another biggest projects of his career, bringing together some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

Tom McCarthy has joined hands with one of the most well-known studios, Sony Pictures Classic to direct its upcoming dark comedy movie. Much like the veteran director, the studio has also pulled some of the award-winning actors, Golden Globe nominee Paul Rudd, Oscar nominees Amy Ryan and Paul Giamatti, Emmy winners John Turturro and Tatiana Maslany, Golden Globe winner Evan Peters, and Actor Award nominee Jason Clarke, for the movie.

 Clearly, casting director Allison Estrin has left no stone unturned for the project. Now, with such a powerhouse cast, the film is also backed by an equally star-studded production team.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are among the executive producers for the film. The two recently produced their latest film, The Rip. As for the remaining details, the studio has remained tight-lipped.

Apart from the cast, the movie's plot has also sparked speculation, as it is expected to be a book adaptation, as per Deadline. 

What is Tom McCarthy’s upcoming project about?

Legendary director, Tom McCarthy, is paired with a star-studded cast for a movie based on climate issues. It is based on Nathaniel Rich’s book Losing Earth, which is set in 1980, when twenty experts gather for a weekend conference on a global issue, which is the impact of Co2 emissions on the climate. And the scientists are asked to complete one task, which is to write the solution for this issue.

This simple task is not so simple, however, and leads to a series of events that the upcoming movie is set to represent. Considering the cast and solid story, expectations from the film are already sky-high. Now, all eyes will be on director Tom McCarthy as to how he shapes this cinematic experience.
