Tom Holland has now weighed in on one of the MCU’s biggest “what ifs,” admitting Timothée Chalamet could have brought a far moodier take to Marvel’s friendly neighborhood hero.

While the alternate casting exists only in theory, Holland had little doubt about the version of Spider-Man Chalamet would have brought to life.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Tom Holland was asked to imagine an MCU where Timothée Chalamet played Spider-Man instead. Rather than dismissing the idea, Holland embraced it, saying the Dune star would bring “a lot of emotion” to Peter Parker while delivering “a more brooding version” of the web-slinger than the one audiences have come to know.

“I think he [Timothée] would make a great Spider-Man,” Holland said. “I think he would really bring a lot of emotion. He would be a more brooding version of the character, which might be kind of interesting.” Holland said on Happy Sad Confused.

Holland even joked that if Chalamet had become Spider-Man, perhaps he would have ended up playing Paul Atreides in Dune instead. Laughing through the hypothetical, the actor imagined himself stumbling across Arrakis as “this kind of blumbering idiot running through the sand.” Though the exchange was playful, Holland’s comments painted an intriguing picture of an MCU fans never got to experience, one where Peter Parker carried a quieter, more introspective edge.

However, as the alternate Spider-Man may exist only in Tom Holland’s imagination, his real one, however, is already rewriting Marvel history.
