Spider-Man: Brand New Day is looking like one of the most anticipated Marvel releases and fans are eager to see how new characters will fit into Peter Parker's world. One of the biggest additions to the film is the character Frank Castle better known as The Punisher. Tom Holland recently provided a humorous update on the crossover, explaining that every time The Punisher attempts to curse in the film, Spider-Man just webs his mouth shut, providing fans with a glimpse at the unlikely dynamic between the two heroes.

Their partnership may be unconventional, but it already sounds like one of Marvel’s most entertaining odd-couple pairings.

Tom Holland recently appeared at Fandango to talk about Spider-Man: Brand New Day and revealed new details about Spider-Man’s relationship with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. He spoke of their “awesome big brother little brother” relationship, full of banter. Holland also revealed one of the film’s running jokes, explaining that Spider-Man web The Punisher’s mouth shut whenever he tries to swear, in order to help fit the R-rated character into Spider-Man’s world.

“I love trying to figure out how you take a very R-rated character and fit him into our world without changing him. And there's loads of fun little Spider-Man quips that we use to kind of get around. Like every time he goes to swear, we just web his mouth. [laughter] Oh, so he's like the new language,” he said, reflecting on Bernthal.

Holland further expanded on Bernthal’s role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, sharing his thoughts on the value The Punisher adds to the film, and how well the cast interacted on set. He praised Bernthal’s on-screen presence, and the chemistry that helped define his characters’ relationship. He added that the actor has a strong energy whenever he is on screen as well. He also said it was fun to explore the dynamic between Spider-Man and the Punisher, with the cast comfortably building on each other’s ideas.

Beyond the playful chemistry Holland described, the addition of Frank Castle could have major implications for Peter Parker’s next chapter.

Inside The Punisher’s expected role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will expand Peter Parker’s world by introducing The Punisher, one of Marvel’s more complicated antiheroes, to the franchise. Rumor has it that the film will explore the difference between Spider-Man’s sense of responsibility and Frank Castle’s uncompromising approach to justice. As the story develops, their opposing perspectives may lead to not only conflict but also surprising alliances.

Most of the plot remains wrapped in secret by Marvel, but the casting of The Punisher brings a whole new dimension to the movie that makes fans anticipate an even darker storyline for the superhero flick. With the inclusion of Castle, Spider-Man might just have to grapple with a lot of hard decisions regarding his moral choices. One thing that everyone has their eyes on is the crossover.

The Punisher’s inclusion in Peter Parker’s world in Spider-Man: Brand New Day hints at a film that will mix humor with some more serious material. There will be plenty of banter, Holland’s comments suggest, from the unlikely pairing, while the story itself may well pose difficult questions of justice and responsibility to Spider-Man. All those elements combine to make the crossover one of the most intriguing aspects of Marvel’s next chapter.
