If the fact that Tom Holland is a massive Spider-Man nerd is not obvious enough despite his four-film turn as the web-slinger, then his recent comments about Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley’s 2002 Ultimate Spider-Man comic run should do the trick. His inner Spidey fanboy was on full display while talking about his favorite moments and elements from the iconic comic series. But there is something in particular from the comic run that he would want his Spider-Man to have for a future film.

Tom Holland would like to try Johnny Storm’s iconic Bag-Man costume from the Ultimate Spider-Man storyline.

Tom Holland spoke to Marvel for Amazing Spider-Man #1000 and revealed his favorite Spider-Man comics to be Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley’s 2002 Ultimate Spider-Man series, per Bleeding Cool. While expressing his love for the celebrated comic run, he also revealed that it is the series that connected with him the most, and there are several elements from that particular storyline that he would like to incorporate into his future movie, like Johnny Storm’s classic “Bombastic Bag-Man” costume.     

"I like the Bag-Man because I love his relationship with Johnny Storm. That would be something I would really be eager to try to explore in the future,” Holland said while talking about other costumes he would like his Spider-Man to try in the future.

For the unversed, the Bombastic Bag-Man is a humorous temporary outfit worn by Spider-Man that had a Fantastic Four jumpsuit (a spare given to him by Johnny Storm himself) and a paper grocery bag over his head. He wore the costume after Reed Richards used a sonic gun at the Baxter Building to separate Venom from Peter. 

Bleeding Cool also reports that Holland has other aspirations for the wall-crawler. Tom Holland shared his enthusiasm for adapting comic book storylines, singling out the Ultimate Spider-Man Clone Saga as a particularly compelling narrative arc. He noted a specific fondness for the rooftop train encounter where Peter Parker first crosses paths with Spider-Woman, recalling how deeply the moment resonated with him.

But the biggest of these aspirations is a collaboration that Tom Holland has been pitching to Marvel for over a decade.

Recalling a specific sequence from the 2002 Ultimate Spider-Man comic, Tom Holland shared how he has spent over a decade pitching a particular comedic beat to filmmakers. The actor recounted a moment from Ultimate Spider-Man #21 where Peter Parker is en route to confront Doctor Octopus, only for Kraven the Hunter to suddenly ambush him. Expecting a massive, drawn-out showdown, the tension is instantly defused when Spider-Man lands a single punch that floors Kraven, burying him in the ground. 

Calling it a moment that always makes him laugh out loud, Holland admitted he has tried to get the gag into his own films since before shooting Spider-Man: Homecoming. Director Destin Daniel Cretton chimed in on the pitch's longevity, laughing that every time Holland brought it up, he acted as if the idea had just come to him the night before, completely unaware the star had been holding onto it for over ten years.
