Tom Hiddleston will star in the docudrama, Pompeii: Out of Time, which will explore the catastrophic event that destroyed the ancient city of Pompeii. While much is already known about the artifacts and the daily lives of the people who once lived there, the new docudrama shifts its focus to the day the tragedy happened, its survivors, and much more. As seen in the trailer, the docudrama will show a dramatization of real people who lived in Pompeii based on the findings of archaeologists, historians, geologists, and disaster experts.

The three-part docudrama will also feature Hiddleston speaking with experts about the events that may have happened on the day of Pompeii's destruction. Following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, the city was buried beneath layers of ash and pumice, preserving everything from artifacts to the remains of its unfortunate victims. This preservation has allowed present-day archaeologists and historians to understand life in ancient Pompeii, which will now be detailed by Hiddleston.

The trickster god Loki may not be from Pompeii, but the character does share an interesting connection to the ancient city. In Loki Season 1, he traveled to Pompeii in 79 AD to test a theory about time variance and apocalyptic events. It is a subtle yet fascinating link between the ancient Roman city and the present-day Loki played by The Night Manager actor, Tom Hiddleston, in shows and movies. 

As for Hiddleston, history has always been one of his passions. He studied Classics at the University of Cambridge, where he learned Ancient Greek and Latin. That interest in the ancient world may have pulled him to Pompeii: Out of Time. The three-part docudrama is set to premiere on July 22, 2026, and will be available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu.
