Tom Cruise has spent more than four decades in Hollywood, with dozens of films behind him and a level of fame few actors ever reach. Having worked with some of the industry's most acclaimed directors, he is now opening up about what set Alejandro González Iñárritu's approach apart.

So what made working with Iñárritu on Digger different from everything Cruise had done before?

Tom Cruise is best known for his long collaboration with Christopher McQuarrie, but his latest set offered something different. On Alejandro González Iñárritu's Digger, he said there was one firm rule: no phones.

"No phones," the actor revealed about the Digger set during a Producers Guild of America screening on the Fox lot in LA on Sunday.

While speaking at the PGA screening in LA about how he has grown in the industry through the years, the actor reflected on the amount of time, effort, and work that goes into the production of the movie. He further spoke about how, at a time when screens were not disposable, working under the no-phones policy made way for creating something incredible.

Although it may have been Alejandro González Iñárritu who came up with the policy of 'no phones' on the Digger set, Tom Cruise himself has a peculiar policy while doing movies. 

An actor with both critical and mass appeal, Tom Cruise does not just read any script that he is given. In fact, he does not read any script that is given to him; instead, he asks the director to read the script to him in order to better understand the character that he is to portray. Cruise revealed during the New Heights podcast how this trick just eases him into the movie.

"What I do with with directors and writers is I don’t read the scripts.  I have them read it to me because I don’t want my ideas to invade it yet." the actor said.

Be it Alejandro González Iñárritu's policy of not using phones on the set or Tom Cruise's habit of making the directors or writers read the script to him before getting on with it himself, it all becomes the part and parcel of the process of making an incredible movie.
