Tom Cruise fired a stunt coordinator who suggested his iconic skyscraper stunt in the movie was impossible. Tom Cruise has a penchant for doing his own stunts, which is a well-known fact, but what most people do not know is the extent to which he will go in bringing the most unimaginable action set-pieces to life. There are several famous stories of the Mission: Impossible actor’s ridiculously heroic stunts that he is adamant about doing all by himself.

Among the many is the story of how Tom Cruise got his way in the fourth Mission: Impossible movie.

During a July 2022 interview on the About Last Night podcast, Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick co-star Miles Teller revealed how the legendary actor fired the stunt guy who said that his big skyscraper stunt in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol was impossible. He replaced him with a coordinator who made it possible for his wild vision to come to life on the big screen.

“The first stunt coordinator they got, Tom said, ‘This is the stunt I want to do. I’ve been thinking about this for 10 years.’ The stunt coordinator said, ‘That’s impossible. You’ll never be able to do that,’” Teller told the hosts.

He also revealed further in the podcast that Cruise had to retrain to control his blood flow and heartbeat better, as during the stunt he had to like run and jump against the altitude, and that too in a harness that cuts off blood circulation. It was arduous and a lot riskier than it looks at first.

But if it were not for Tom Cruise's stubbornness over his vision and bravado to take on such a life-threatening challenge, we would have never gotten one of the most exhilarating stunts in cinema history. And to think he did all that with just a single wire attached to his body is insane.

Tom Cruise’s next with Alejandro G. Iñárritu due soon

Tom Cruise and The Revenant fame Alejandro G. Iñárritu have joined forces for a wildly eccentric story called Digger that sees the celebrated action star play an aged and kind of out-of-shape character that closely resembles an older version of his iconic character from Tropic Thunder, Les Grossman (except he has hair in this one).

In the satirical black comedy that is releasing on October 2, Cruise plays the world's most powerful man, Digger Rockwell, who must show he is humanity's savior before a catastrophe he orchestrated wipes everything out. After quite a long time, Cruise fans will get to see the actor venturing beyond his action star persona and embracing a character that is the polar opposite of his established brand. Anyhow, the action star will be back as a third part of Top Gun is in the works.
