Few things test neighbours quite like a shared wall and fifteen years of nodding politely on the doorstep. Tip Toe takes that idea and wires it straight into the mains. Channel 4 handed the pen to Russell T Davies, and the result is a five-part psychological thriller that starts with small talk and ends somewhere far darker. Manchester has rarely looked so friendly and so tense at the same time. The 2026 miniseries also comes with a cast that could make even a bin collection feel like prestige television.

While the neighbours pretend everything is fine, the people playing them deserve a proper introduction. As the doorbell rings, two names in particular arrive with serious weight. Someone has to answer the door, after all.

Somewhere between the bar stools and the toolbox sits Alan Cumming as Leo Struthers, owner of Spit & Polish on Canal Street, a bar that has seen everything. Next door lives electrician Clive Goss, played by David Morrissey, whose marriage to Marie Goss, played by Pooky Quesnel, is closer to a shouting match than a romance. Elizabeth Berrington in Tip Toe plays Stephanie Dale, the loyal best friend with a spare key, while Jackson Connor and Joseph Evans play the two sons.

As the cast settles in, the calendar has some catching up to do. While UK viewers already know how it ends, other countries are still waiting for the first knock. 

Viewers in the United States and English Canada only need to wait until 2 October 2026, when Starz premieres the series. The UK got there first, with Channel 4 airing all five episodes at 9 pm between 31 May and 9 June 2026. Australia streams it on Binge and New Zealand on TVNZ+, while Spain watched on HBO Max from 16 July 2026. Channel 4 also put every episode on its on-demand service, so nobody had to miss the doorstep drama.

As the dates settle, the story deserves a closer look. While the early episodes feel like harmless neighbourly chatter, the mood turns dark fast. Full spoilers follow.

The series opens with a flash-forward of Struthers hanging from a streetlamp, then rewinds ten days to a stolen laptop. The resulting lockout sends him to Goss' door, and one favour grows into a job at the bar. Trouble starts when Goss discovers that Struthers has been messaging his teenage son on a dating app. Goss then stirs a crowd that hangs Struthers with an electrical cable. Goss is arrested, and the bar becomes a pizzeria.

Few dramas turn a borrowed key and a polite hello into something this unsettling, and Russell T Davies makes it look easy. Viewers in the United States and English Canada only have a couple of days left before Starz opens the door on 2 October 2026. Anyone who cannot sit still until then has options, since Netflix has a list of thrillers ready to keep the nerves busy during the wait.
