Kristin Davis has an idea for the final S-- and the City chapter, and it involves waiting until the cast turns gray. The actress has clearly spent some time daydreaming about one last outing for Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda. Her pitch even comes with a movie reference for anyone who needs a visual. Fans have lived without new episodes for a while, so a long horizon may sting a little.

Kristin Davis pitches a S-- and the City finale set in Italy

Kristin Davis envisions the final S-- and the City chapter as a once-in-a-lifetime girls’ trip to Italy, even if fans have to wait until the cast is “gray” to see it happen. She pointed to Book Club: The Next Chapter, the 2023 film about four longtime friends who finally take a much-anticipated getaway abroad, as inspiration for the idea.

“In my mind, what would be nice for a final chapter, when I’m afraid we’re going to have to wait ‘till we’re gray,” Davis said on the Are You a Charlotte? podcast.

The film stars Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen as friends who travel to Italy together. Davis also mentioned Jennifer Garner’s The Five-Star Weekend as another possible source of inspiration, praising its aspirational lifestyle and beautiful Nantucket setting.

Davis floated the idea on Are You a Charlotte? while chatting with Evan Handler, her on-screen husband. She cannot believe the franchise is finished, even after And Just Like That... ended its three-season run. Creator Michael Patrick King avoided the old formula because the characters are older, which Davis cited when addressing complaints about tone. She hopes a final chapter could bring the original spirit of the franchise back through a glamorous getaway, giving Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda one last adventure together.

While Davis dreams of a fabulous Italian escape, the original costume department once gave her a far less glamorous journey.

Kristin Davis recalls a rocky start with the S-- and the City costume designer

On another episode of Are You a Charlotte?, Kristin Davis recalled that costume designer Patricia Field struggled with her curvier figure compared with the other three leads, making their early working relationship difficult. In the late 1990s, fashion favored a straighter silhouette, and dieting did not change Davis’s natural shape. She even tried a ballet dancer’s diet before switching to healthier eating habits. By season six, Field had come to accept her figure, and Davis was pleased with the wedding gown designed for Charlotte that season.

Davis was not alone, since Evan Handler disliked the stiff, ill-fitting suits and ugly ties given to his character. Field kept promising him greatness, though he found the outfits hideous. He stayed quiet as a newcomer, yet later admitted that Field’s fashion was one of the show’s most successful elements. Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago later took over costumes for the spinoff and films. Wardrobes have come a long way since, which is handy for an Italian trip that begins only when everyone turns gray.
