The Friends cast was warned about their future popularity by director James Burrows before the first episode was released. Fortunately, it was too late for the cast to avoid the fame that came with starring in one of the most famous and iconic sitcoms, which remains beloved to this day. The show ran for 10 seasons, becoming one of the most-watched sitcoms in American television history and even spawning a spin-off.

Although the actors later moved on to play different roles throughout their careers, they are still best remembered for playing the iconic characters from Friends. But before the sitcom premiered, Burrows made a prediction of the cast's future success during a trip to Las Vegas. Lisa Kudrow later recalled the memorable trip and remembered the director’s words for them.

Lisa Kudrow recently joined the Fresh Air podcast, where she spoke fondly about her time filming Friends. She recalled that James Burrows, who directed the show's first 10 episodes, took the cast on a trip to Las Vegas and later brought them to the famous restaurant Spago. During this time, Burrows made a prediction that the show would become a huge hit and catapult its cast to stardom.

“And he took us to Spago and said, 'Pay attention. This is the last time the six of you can be out in public like this and not be recognized,” she recalled.

Although Kudrow shared on the podcast that she was initially skeptical about Burrows’ prediction, he was ultimately right about the sitcom’s potential. Friends became a massive hit from its first season, and the cast is still earning from the show even now. Kudrow also shared that Burrows went above and beyond by asking Warner Bros. to lend its private jet for the cast’s trip to Las Vegas.

The cast watched the first episode of their sitcom together, and Burrows even gave each of them $200 to gamble. Kudrow joked about being irritated when Burrows later asked them to stop and join him for dinner. She also expressed her condolences following director Burrows’ shocking death earlier this year.
