Emily Blunt recently revealed that researching real-life UFO encounters and witness testimonies for Disclosure Day ultimately convinced her that there may be more truth to such experiences than she once believed. As the actress immersed herself in the film’s themes, she found herself exploring a subject that has fascinated humanity for decades: the possibility of life beyond Earth. The Steven Spielberg-directed science-fiction thriller delves into humanity's response to evidence of extraterrestrial life, and preparing for the role required Blunt to examine real-world accounts, testimonies, and investigations surrounding unidentified aerial phenomena.
What she discovered along the way left a lasting impression, leading her to reconsider some long-held assumptions about humanity’s place in the universe.

While appearing on The Brandon Davis Show, Emily Blunt reflected on the extensive research she conducted ahead of Disclosure Day. The actress explained that she watched congressional hearings, documentaries, and docuseries focused on people who claim to have encountered unexplained phenomena. What resonated most with her was the conviction displayed by those sharing their stories.
"I think that the thing that I was struck by was how inarguable it seemed to me that people were lying. There was this absolute peaceful truth pouring out of them. They know what they saw. They believe it. Even if they've been discredited, disvalued, kicked out, lost their jobs, accused of being whistleblowers, they believe it." Blunt said on The Brandon Davis Show.
She went on to describe a sense of calm and wonder she noticed among many of the individuals recounting their experiences. According to the actress, hearing people discuss encounters that profoundly changed their outlook made her question whether humanity may be too quick to dismiss possibilities that remain unexplained. For Blunt, the process became less about proving what is real and more about remaining open to the vast mysteries that still exist.
That openness to exploring the unknown also influenced how Blunt approached her work on screen, including one of the film's most challenging sequences.
Why Emily Blunt chose human creativity over AI in a crucial scene for Disclosure Day?
During a recent appearance on Hot Ones, Emily Blunt revealed that she deliberately avoided using artificial intelligence for a pivotal moment in Disclosure Day. The sequence involves her character undergoing a disturbing transformation while delivering a weather broadcast, producing unsettling sounds that signal something is terribly wrong. Rather than relying on AI-generated effects, Blunt wanted to create the performance herself.
“It’s a four-minute oner that we shot that leads up to that moment where she’s gradually sort of disintegrating,” Blunt said about the scene in the episode of Hot Ones, “There’s various ways you could do it. You could go the AI route, which I’m a bit terrified of. I thought I could make some real, really strange sounds.”

The actress revealed she ultimately recorded a range of unusual vocalizations, including clicks, hums, breathing patterns, and distorted consonant sounds. Using microphones positioned near her mouth and throat, the production team captured the performance in detail before the film’s sound designers enhanced it further. The result was a uniquely unsettling sequence that blended practical performance with sound design rather than relying on artificial intelligence to generate the effect from scratch.
As Disclosure Day prepares to bring audiences a story about humanity’s encounter with the unknown, Emily Blunt’s own journey with the material appears to have left a significant mark on her worldview. From finding credibility in the testimonies of UFO witnesses to embracing practical creativity over AI-assisted filmmaking, the actress has shown a willingness to question assumptions and explore possibilities beyond conventional thinking.
