Filmmaker Ángel Manuel Soto explained to The Wrap that James Gunn has a strong interest in Blue Beetle, although he cannot provide exact details about it. Gunn publicly confirmed through other statements that Blue Beetle will continue to exist in DC Universe plans for future development.

"I don’t think that chapter has been closed. I’ve had friendly conversations with Peter Safran and John Rickard. And I know James is a huge fan of Blue Beetle, and he’s said multiple times that Blue Beetle is part of the DCU," Soto told the outlet.

DC Studios is currently discussing Jaime Reyes' return in both live-action and animated formats, although no sequel has been officially announced. The Blue Beetle character fits well into DC Universe plans, so rest assured, the studio will likely expand the universe created in the original film.

"I think that you can do so much with animation, and it’s also a fun medium that I’ve always wanted to explore. So if the movie gods and the people and our dear friends at DC and Warner Bros. see it fit, I would love nothing more than to continue to tell that story," Soto revealed to the outlet.

The director described how the movie impacted his career because it opened new opportunities for him to explore in terms of storytelling. Its cultural impact extended to how viewers recognized their own identities through the film, which created a lasting impression, thus fueling anticipation for what comes next for the Latino superhero.
