Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey follows the legendary Greek king and warrior Odysseus as he begins a perilous 10-year journey from Troy to Ithaca after the Trojan War. During this 10-year journey, Odysseus battles against several creatures. In the film, Matt Damon appears impressive as the battered and exhausted hero, taking on mythical foes such as the terrifying Polyphemus, giants, and the witch Circe.

The actor is seen performing awe-inspiring stunts as he battles against these creatures. However, Damon is not the only hero behind the film. There was another hero, Devyn Dalton, who helped Damon and director Nolan bring one of the most crucial scenes to life. And although her face was never seen throughout the film, she has managed to steal the spotlight after Damon revealed her role in the film and expressed his gratitude. 

While The Odyssey is certainly one of the biggest projects to get added to Dalton's resume, her career features several notable films and shows. And her journey to making an appearance in The Odyssey is even more fascinating. So, here is everything about Dalton and her role in the film. 

Matt Damon revealed during his appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that Devyn Dalton was his stunt double for the scene in which Odysseus battles the Laestrygonians in the film. For those who have yet to see The Odyssey, the Laestrygonians are giant warriors. Christopher Nolan filmed the scene using practical effects, placing the 4-foot-6 stunt performer in front of 7-foot-tall stuntmen to create the illusion of Odysseus facing towering enemies.

And Dalton, who is 4-foot-6, stood instead of Damon in front of the taller stuntman for the scene. She was also featured in the film's iconic poster, which depicts Odysseus standing before a Laestrygonian. 

During the podcast, Damon revealed that the arm seen in the poster actually belongs to Dalton and took a moment to thank her for her work on the film.

“And then they got stuntmen who were under five feet, and so my double was a woman, a female stunt performer, who had the greatest arms I’ve ever seen,” he said.

“So there are those shots in the movie where you see these giants looming over me, and so it was almost 100 percent my arms in the movie, but you gotta give it up where it’s due,” he further added.

However, The Odyssey is far from Dalton's only major credit. The stunt performer has built an impressive career with appearances in several notable films and television shows.

Before The Odyssey, Devyn Dalton had boasted of an impressive resume with roles in several notable films and television shows. The Canadian actress began her career early, from a very young age. She had a love for dancing and acting at a young age, earning recognition and numerous awards for her performances.

Her talent soon led to opportunities in theater, where she continued to hone her skills. And her talent did not go unnoticed. Dalton signed with an agency at just 10 years old. While working as a dancer, she discovered a passion for stunt work and gradually shifted her focus to performing stunts. 

She made her debut as a stunt performer in 2009 and has since amassed more than 80 stunt credits. She had the role of Cornelia the ape in Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011. War for the Planet of the Apes, The BFG, Hypnotic, DC Legends of Tomorrow, Two Sentence Horror Story, Fairly Odd Christmas, Brothers, Beyblade Burst, My Little Pony, Peter Pan and Wendy are some of the shows and films to her name. 

Dalton has also appeared in HBO's The Last of Us. In an interview with the New York Post, Dalton shared how she continues to follow her rigorous routine of workout even she is not working on any films. She strictly follows her routine of yoga, weight conditioning, boxing, and weapon practice so that she is prepared whenever she gets the call for a movie or any stunt. 

Dalton has also worked with Steven Spielberg in his film The BFG. Now, apart from her stunt work, she has landed several voice acting roles as well. She appeared in Barbie in Rock 'N Royals and The Electric State, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt. As for her part in The Odyssey, the actress admitted that she was surprised when she saw videos of Matt Damon appreciating her work in the film. 

"I had some friends send me the clip, and my jaw kind of dropped," she told CBC News. "I just thought it was so awesome. Obviously, I never expect those things. So any kind of recognition or shout-outs, I really appreciate it and I think it’s super awesome." 

"I’m so proud to kind of shine a light on stunts and stunt acting and especially stunt women," the 34-year-old said about being able to inspire people with her job.. "I think women have worked really hard for a long time in the industry, and it’s really exciting to be a part of maybe a movement where a light is shone on that more."

Although Dalton's face does not appear in films and shows very often, she plays a crucial role in bringing important scenes to life. Matt Damon's comments about her work on The Odyssey have helped introduce her to audiences around the world, many of whom have praised the stunt performer. After this huge role, we may perhaps get to see more of Dalton in future films and shows.
