The Westies are here! MGM+'s upcoming crime drama, The Westies, is set to bring one of the darkest and most notorious chapters in Hell's Kitchen history to screen. A first look at the show is finally out. And while the series is a fictionalized take on real events, its first season hints at intense tension, drama, dangerous secrets, and ruthless power struggles.

MGM+'s upcoming crime drama The Westies is set in 1980s Hell's Kitchen, New York, and focuses on the infamous Westies gang. The story follows the group as it attempts to profit from the construction of the Javits Center. However, their ambitions put them on a collision course with the Italian Mafia, escalating an already dangerous power struggle.

Meanwhile, the FBI closely monitors the neighbourhood. While the complete plot is not yet revealed, the series is set to follow fictional Westies boss Eamon Sweeney. The first trailer hinted at violence and tense underworld drama in the show, which is backed by a star-studded cast.

J. K. Simmons as Eamon Sweeney: J. K. Simmons has previously contributed to Invincible and appeared in films such as The Closer, The Accountant, and more. 

Titus Welliver as Glenn Keenan: Titus Welliver is well known for his roles in the series Bosch, Bosch: Legacy, and Ballard. He also played the role of Silas Adams in Deadwood

Tom Brittney as James “Jimmy” Roarke: Brittney is well known for his roles in the 2013 series Doctors and the fantasy series Outlander.

Jessica Frances Dukes as Birdie Polk: Many might know Jessica Frances Dukes as Special Agent Maya Miller in the Netflix series Ozark. She also appeared in the 2023 film Gray Matter. 

Stanley Morgan as Mickey Flanagan: He has appeared in several shows throughout his career. Some his notable work is in A Thousand Blows and The Serpent Queen.

Sarah Bolger (The Tudors) as Bridget Walsh

Allen Leech (Cold Meat) as Brendan Cahill

Hamish Allan-Headly (Thinly Veiled) as John Gotti

Vincent Walsh (Played) as Eddie Breen

Hilary McCormack as Erin Malone

While the cast has been revealed, the roles each actor will play in the story remain under wraps. There is also still plenty to learn about the series, which has the potential to become one of the best crime series of this year. With so many mysteries yet to be revealed, there is curiosity about its release date.

Release date of The Westies

The Westies will premiere on MGM+ on July 12, 2026. The first two episodes will premiere on the same day. The crime drama will then continue with one new episode releasing each week. Created by Chris Brancato and Michael Panes, the series will continue over an eight-week run. After a hit series like Peaky Blinders, whether The Westies can win over new fans remains to be seen.
