‘The Testaments’ Release Schedule: When and Where Will Every Episode of 'The Handmaid’s Tale' Sequel Drop

When The Handmaid’s Tale first arrived on screen, it redefined dystopian storytelling with its chilling vision of a theocratic America where women are stripped of autonomy and reduced to their reproductive function. Its stark visuals, deeply human performances, and unflinching political commentary made it both a cultural phenomenon and an urgent warning about the fragility of rights.
The series became a benchmark for how television could blend literary prestige with social relevance. Now, we are entering the same universe once more, with The Testaments, the story of Gilead expands into a new chapter of rebellion.

The Testaments, the sequel series set in the world of The Handmaid’s Tale, will kick off its first season with a multi-episode premiere on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. The opening batch, with three episodes, will drop at once, giving fans an immediate plunge into the continued saga of Gilead as seen through the younger generation tied to Aunt Lydia and Hannah.
Following the three-episode premiere, The Testaments will shift to a weekly rollout pattern with one new episode arriving each Wednesday until the season finale. The first season totals 10 episodes, meaning the run will extend through late May 2026, with the final installment expected around May 27.
In the US, it will stream on Hulu and for Hulu–Disney+ bundle subscribers on Disney+, while international audiences will be able to watch it exclusively on Disney+ starting the same date.
While The Testaments brings fresh faces and new perspectives to Gilead, its core ties directly back to the original series.
The Testaments continues the story of Gilead
The Testaments continues the saga of Gilead by shifting the focus to the next generation of women who have come of age inside its oppressive regime. Set a decade after the fall of the original story, the series explores how the legacy of rebellion, propaganda, and survival courses through younger characters raised under surveillance and fear.

The Testaments centers on a new, tightly focused ensemble cast that includes Hattie Kragten as Constance, Zarrin Darnell‑Martin as Aunt Gabbana, and Chase Infiniti as Agnes, alongside Lucy Halliday as Daisy and Blessing Adedijo as Zilla. Ann Dowd returns in a pivotal but limited role as Aunt Lydia, bridging the series to the original Handmaid’s Tale mythology, while Brad Alexander, Eva Foote, and Rowan Blanchard appear as Garth, Aunt Estee, and Shunammite, respectively.
The Testaments is based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel, a thematic and chronological sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale. It expands the story beyond Offred, following new characters and time jumps across Gilead and its borders. The series brings this layered structure to screen, weaving past indoctrination with present‑day resistance and becoming both a continuation of the original saga and a haunting look at how power endures.
