Denis Villeneuve is more eager to return to Arrakis than previously anticipated, according to World of Reel. The website reported on Friday, July 4, that the acclaimed filmmaker is set to start production for Dune: Messiah on July 7 in Budapest. The portal also noted that Zendaya, the face of the highly revered book-to-screen adaptation, recently arrived in the Hungarian capital to kick things off. Villeneuve, notably, has a greater challenge in front of him when it comes to directing this movie.
While the said source did not divulge any information about the rest of the cast, it is important to note that the third part of the Dune series features returning cast members Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Anya Taylor-Joy, as well as multiple new additions. Should the director choose to stay faithful to the books, which have acted as the screen adaptations’ source material so far, he is expected to have a difficult time breaking down the convoluted premise of the current fable. As is known that epic visions are not rushed, word is that the complexity of the new Dune movie is bound to keep Villeneuve away from any other obligations for a while.
As Denis Villeneuve dives back into the sands of Arrakis, could it mean his next James Bond film—his next big adventure—will have to wait?
Could Denis Villeneuve’s Dune schedule stall his James Bond?
While Denis Villeneuve has been confirmed to direct the next James Bond film, the next 007 venture has no other elements on track yet. Amazon MGM is still looking for an actor to play the iconic spy and has yet to finalize a screenwriter. It appears that Villeneuve will not need to rush Dune: Messiah, as James Bond will only likely hit the floors after the former’s schedule is wrapped. Dune, for the record, also has December 18, 2026, as its locked release date.

The new James Bond film will mark the franchise’s 26th title and the follow-up to 2021’s No Time to Die, which served as Daniel Craig’s last outing as the acclaimed spy. The film will also be Amazon’s first Bond endeavor since its USD 8.45 billion franchise takeover. With Denis Villeneuve attached, the anticipation for the project has only increased tenfold. Luckily for the helmer, his Dune: Messiah schedule is not acting as a hindrance.
