Origin stories of Gotham characters are still expected to form the heart of the new season, which rules out the Joker because his background has already been well explored with multiple actors portraying the part. The narrative of The Penguin season 2 might shift toward characters such as Catwoman, Robin, or even The Riddler, opening doors for fresh arcs.

Another possibility circulating online is a time jump centred on Sofia’s cousin’s daughter, Gia, now grown and seeking vengeance. 

If the series is greenlit under the newly forged collaboration between Netflix and Warner Bros., and production begins soon, viewers can hope for a 2027 release. The Batman: Part II is set for an October 2027 release, so The Penguin season 2 arriving shortly before or after that would not be surprising, as makers often prefer to release interconnected worlds close to each other.
