After months of speculation and constant questions from fans,thos is  universe may finally be inching toward an answer. The first season of the Batman spin-off series grabbed everyone's attention with its dark tone, compelling characters, and twists that kept viewers talking long after the finale.

Now, a new insider update has reignited the conversation about what comes next. With Warner Bros. now writing its future with Paramount by its side, what exactly does this mean for Season 2? Here's what we know, and what we still do not.

The series still needs to be announced by DC and HBO. As of this writing, there is no confirmation of the cast of the season in discussion. With the show being labeled as a miniseries and the last season having been released in 2024, with no hints from the creators or cast, the chances of The Penguin Season 2 are running thin. Especially now with industry insider, Jeff Sneider commenting on the same.

"I'm told that DC/HBO will not move forward with a second season of THE PENGUIN, which will remain a limited series." Sneider said on his X account.

Following its release, the HBO series had racked up plenty of critical acclaim, alongside great viewership ratings, making the path to a season 2 seem smooth. Furthermore, a report by Bloomberg in 2025 confirmed that The Penguin Season 2 was in the works only for the series to not receive another update later on. While there had been no major updates, HBO boss Casey Bloys did say in a conversation with Variety that making The Penguin Season 2 is quite complicated. 

"Colin is going to be in the [“The Batman: Part II”] movie. He’s got other movies going on. [..] I would say it’s certainly complicated, but something everybody involved would like to figure out. I just don’t know." said Bloys to Variety.

While the sky looks grey for this Gotham city spin-off series, in case the sun does shine as Casey Bloys hopes, The Penguin's story for the second season could expand beyond Oz and Sofia's origins and explore deeper corners of Gotham’s mythology.

Origin stories of Gotham characters are still expected to form the heart of the new season, which rules out the Joker because his background has already been well explored with multiple actors portraying the part. The narrative of The Penguin season 2 might shift toward characters such as Catwoman, Robin, or even The Riddler, opening doors for fresh arcs.

Another possibility circulating online is a time jump centred on Sofia’s cousin’s daughter, Gia, now grown and seeking vengeance. The possible storylines are not the only hopes that fans are clinging on to, as they also wish for certain comebacks. Given the spectacular performance and the unrecognizable transformation put forth by Colin Farrell, an idea everyone can get behind is that there cannot be Season 2 without him.

However, with the actor now involved in other Batman projects, the possibility of The Penguin Season 2 is now something that lies on the HBO and DC boss' table.
