Fan casting has become one of the loudest forces in superhero culture, and both Marvel and DC have repeatedly shown that online enthusiasm can shape real studio decisions. This year, that effect seems to have paid off for Ryan Gosling, whose long-rumored connection to Ghost Rider has finally turned into reality.

What makes the story even better is that his path to the role may have started with one interview and one very public wish.

Ryan Gosling had talked about Ghost Rider for years, treating the character less like a random fan theory and more like a dream role he genuinely wanted. In 2022, he revealed on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused that Ghost Rider was the Marvel character he most wanted to play. Then, during another appearance on the podcast in March 2026, he confirmed there had been talks with Marvel, saying,

"We'll keep hope alive. Some discussions have been had. It's a complicated situation," which kept the possibility alive even before anything was official.

The real spark, though, came from how Marvel responded to that fan energy. Shortly after Gosling first expressed interest in July 2022, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige praised the actor, saying, "Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider..." before adding, "Ryan's unbelievable. Ryan is amazing... I'd love to find a place for him in the MCU." Years of fan chatter, combined with Gosling's own enthusiasm, helped make Ghost Rider feel less like fantasy and more like an eventuality.

Then came San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Marvel finally made it official and announced Gosling as the MCU’s Ghost Rider, with Shawn Levy directing a standalone film. That confirmation turned one of the internet’s favourite “what if” casts into an actual studio plan. In the end, it was not just fandom talking into the void. That Comic-Con reveal was not the only Ryan moment that had fans talking.

Ryan Reynolds gave Comic-Con fans one of the night’s biggest surprises when he showed up in full Deadpool costume during Marvel’s Hall H presentation for Avengers: Doomsday. His entrance immediately turned the room electric, with the Merc with a Mouth barging into the spotlight just as Marvel began teasing the next major chapter of the MCU.

The surprise appearance also made it clear that Deadpool is still very much part of Marvel’s future, even though Reynolds’ role in Avengers: Doomsday has not been officially confirmed. Once onstage, he played the moment exactly the way fans would expect, tossing out jokes and reacting to the scale of the production around him.

The banter with Robert Downey Jr. only added to the energy, especially when Reynolds joked about whether the film was truly finished or still open to more additions. Reynolds has also hinted that Deadpool’s story is far from over, though he seems more interested in exploring new directions than repeating the same formula.
