It is common for movies to break box office records, with one blockbuster dethroning another as cinematic trends evolve. However, one name that has managed to remain constant is Steven Spielberg. Over a career spanning nearly five decades, the director has established himself as one of the most influential names in box office history.

Steven Spielberg is reportedly considered one of the highest-grossing directors in cinematic history. His films have collectively earned more than $10.7 billion at the global box office. Over the course of his career, Spielberg has broken the record for the highest-grossing movie of all time on three separate occasions.
The first came with Jaws, which grossed nearly $495 million worldwide. He achieved the feat again in 1982 with E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which earned $797.3 million globally. More than a decade later, Spielberg directed Jurassic Park, which grossed $1.058 billion worldwide and surpassed his own record previously held by E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
While other filmmakers, including James Cameron, have come close, none have yet matched Spielberg’s overall box office numbers. Cameron’s films have reportedly grossed around $8.8 billion worldwide, while The Russo Brothers have amassed about $6.9 billion, and Michael Bay's films have garnered roughly $6.7 billion. These numbers reportedly place Spielberg as the highest-grossing director of all time.
And before any director can soar past him, the 79-year-old filmmaker may add even more to his record with his upcoming movie, Disclosure Day.
What is Steven Spielberg’s movie Disclosure Day about?

More than just a story revolving around the existence of aliens, the film is expected to explore complex themes and raise thought-provoking questions that challenge viewers' assumptions and beliefs. Disclosure Day has already impressed critics. The film is scheduled to be released on June 12, 2026. If Spielberg's long-standing tradition of blockbuster success continues, Disclosure Day could add a few more millions to the director's already record-breaking box office legacy.
