Curses, flesh-eating scarabs, the resurrection of an ancient Egyptian priest, and unforgettable characters turned The Mummy (1999) into a fan-favorite blend of horror and adventure flick. The film went on to spawn two sequels and made a place for itself in pop culture and nostalgia. Now, nearly two decades later, the beloved franchise is all set to return with a new movie.

Following months of rumors, chatter, and swirling speculation, the film is officially making a comeback, with some familiar faces from the past, including Oscar-winning talent, and even a confirmed release date.

The Mummy franchise is returning with The Mummy 4, and it is set for its theatrical release on May 19, 2028, as per Universal Pictures. This comes after The Mummy (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001), and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). Along with the return of the iconic franchise, it also promised to bring back the same faces, including Brendan Fraser, who has starred in all the previous three movies.

Rachel Weisz, who did not appear in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, is now set to return and reprise her role in the franchise. Several familiar names behind the scenes are also coming back together. Producer Sean Daniel, who helped steer all three of the previous box-office hits, will once again be involved in bringing the adventure back to life.

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, this new chapter is even more important for Fraser, who will serve as an executive producer too, as reported by Variety. Fraser became a household name through roles like Rick O’Connell and George in George of the Jungle before stepping away from the spotlight for years.

He finally returned to the spotlight with an Oscar-winning performance in The Whale, and reminded audiences of his ability to go beyond action heavy films and play more complex characters.

After The Whale, he most recently appeared in Rental Family, showing his versatility as an actor.

Is Brendan Fraser’s newest movie available to stream?

Rental Family, starring Brendan Fraser, was released on November 21, 2025, after its early premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The film is now available to buy or rent on platforms such as Amazon and Apple TV. The movie follows Phillip Vandarploeg, an American actor living in Tokyo, played by Fraser, who is struggling to make ends meet.

That is when he takes an unusual job at a rental family agency, which is a service that provides stand-ins for clients at events like weddings and funerals. What begins as a simple source of income gradually turns personal, as Phillip forms unexpected emotional bonds with the people. Alongside Fraser, the cast includes Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Shannon Mahina Gorman, and Akira Emoto.
