The multiverse is officially heading for a collision, and Joe Russo is adding another ominous layer. Kevin Feige previously confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday would bring different universes together, with Earth-616, Earth-828, and Earth-10005 on a deadly collision course. Now, the Russo brothers are discussing that multiversal crisis, with Joe Russo doubling down on the collapse of realities.

Those who watched the Avengers: Endgame Encore post-credits scene saw the collapse in real time, and Russo has now broken down its role in the chaos.

Joe Russo on the multiversal collapse and the TVA's significance

The multiverse is not merely wobbling anymore; it is falling apart in spectacular fashion. In an interview with Empire Magazine, Joe Russo explained why the new TVA sequence in Avengers: Endgame Encore carries such enormous weight for Avengers: Doomsday. The scene shows the TVA watching realities collide, with thousands of universes beginning to disappear within moments.

“It’s the most profound thing that's ever happened to the MCU.  It is the perceived end of times,” he said.

The Encore sequence puts that catastrophe directly on screen, with Ouroboros, Mobius, and Casey watching the TVA monitors erupt with warnings. Earth-10005 is shown colliding with Earth-1127, while other realities follow, and more than 3,000 universes collapse in seconds. O.B. ultimately delivers the grim diagnosis that the multiverse is collapsing.

For those who caught the post-credits scene, Empire Magazine gives Joe Russo the chance to unpack why that TVA panic matters beyond a dramatic tease. The sequence effectively establishes the crisis awaiting Avengers: Doomsday, while the TVA faces the exact multiversal disaster. And while the scene itself is very important, he also teased that it is still not the most important scene from Avengers: Doomsday.

The Russo Brothers have discussed the challenge of developing so many MCU characters, but the post-credits scene makes it easier for fans to spot where Loki fits into the bigger picture.

Loki's role in Avengers: Doomsday grows clearer

The TVA sequence makes Loki’s importance to Avengers: Doomsday increasingly difficult to overlook. As Mobius, Ouroboros, and Casey watch the timelines deteriorate, the tree-like structure Loki created begins turning red and dying, while thousands of universes collapse around them. The imagery suggests that Loki’s hard-won control over the multiverse is under catastrophic pressure.

That makes the scene especially significant for Loki’s story, since the TVA was effectively built around protecting the timelines he sacrificed everything to preserve. With that system failing, the God of Stories may have little choice but to intervene, particularly as the multiversal crisis spreads beyond the TVA’s ability to contain it. The post-credits scene therefore makes Loki’s role in Avengers: Doomsday increasingly clear.
