Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling romance novel The Love Hypothesis is finally making its way from the page to the screen. The upcoming romantic comedy, backed by Amazon MGM Studios, brings the fan-favorite story of a biology Ph.D. candidate and an intimidating professor to Prime Video.

Directed by Claire Scanlon and written by Sarah Rothschild, the film stars Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman in the lead roles. As it nears its release date, here is everything you need to know about it.

Lili Reinhart leads The Love Hypothesis as Olive Smith, a third-year biology Ph.D. candidate whose carefully planned academic life takes an unexpected turn after she enters a fake relationship. Tom Bateman plays Dr. Adam Carlsen, Olive’s intimidating and famously difficult professor. The story follows Olive Smith, who finds herself in a complicated situation when she realizes that her best friend, Anh, has developed feelings for Olive’s crush, Jeremy. Hoping to convince Anh that she has moved on, Olive impulsively kisses Adam Carlsen, one of the most intimidating professors at her university.

The unexpected encounter soon develops into a mutually beneficial fake-dating arrangement. Olive and Adam agree to pretend they are a couple, complete with rules and boundaries.
