The wait for The Last of Us season 3 is growing increasingly grueling because much time has passed since the release of season 2, as the last episode of the second installment only aired on May 25, 2025. The wait is especially exacting because of the non-stop casting updates for the upcoming season, which is increasingly getting packed with tempting names. There are also reports of a major overhaul in the existing cast of the show.

With so much fuss over the new and old cast, it is crucial to clear the air on the confirmed cast for The Last of Us season 3 so far.

Kaitlyn Dever is set to reprise her role as Abby in The Last of Us Season 3, accompanied by expected returning cast members Gabriel Luna (Tommy), Rutina Wesley (Maria), Isabela Merced (Dina), and Jeffrey Wright (Isaac). However, a notable recasting sees Jorge Lendeborg Jr. taking over the role of Manny from Danny Ramirez, while Clea DuVall joins the ensemble as a Seraphite.

Despite their characters' demises in the previous season, Ariela Barer (Mel), Tati Gabrielle (Nora), and Spencer Lord (Owen) will return as series regulars, though the potential involvement of season 2 casualties Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey remains unconfirmed. Meanwhile, new additions include Patrick Wilson as Jerry (Abby's late father) and Jason Ritter - who previously cameoed as a Clicker in season 1 - stepping in as a WLF soldier named Hanley.

Further expanding the cast, John Goodman and Ian Alexander will portray "Heroes of the Highway" duo Joey and Paco, while Laura Bailey joins as Elizabeth, a leader of the Seraphites. Game fans will recognize Alexander and Bailey from their voice and motion-capture roles as Lev and Abby in The Last of Us Part II, with Bailey also having made a brief cameo as a nurse in the Season 1 finale. Peter Sarsgaard also joins the cast as Amon, one of the leaders of The Seraphites.

There has been much chatter about The Last of Us season 3 being the last in the series, and there is a confirmation of sorts that recently came from a trusted voice.  

Reporting on the future of the HBO hit series to Deadline, HBO chief Casey Bloys confirmed that co-creator and showrunner Craig Mazin is structuring The Last of Us season 3 to serve as the final chapter of the adaptation. While an official premiere date has not yet been locked in, Bloys offered a window during recent remarks, noting that production is slated to wrap up filming in November with an expected arrival in 2027.

Meanwhile, behind-the-scenes changes are also underway for the upcoming swan song. Co-creator Neil Druckmann, who helped bring the original video game to life, has officially stepped away from the television adaptation following the conclusion of season 2. Now, it remains to be seen if there are going to be more additions to the ensemble of the third season of the hit HBO series.
