During a heartfelt appearance on Thursday's installment of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, veteran actor Ethan Hawke opened up about a monumental milestone in his family life. Reflecting on the February 14th nuptials of his 28-year-old daughter, whom he shares with former partner Uma Thurman, the proud father shared that watching her marry musician Christian Lee Hutson stood out as the absolute pinnacle of his personal existence.

“How’s Maya’s wedding? It’s … It’s the greatest day of my life. How about that? Just go simple. You know what? It’s incredible,” the Dead Poets Society alum said.

“Words fail. There’s certain things you go through as a person that you don’t expect, that just run you over,” Hawke added.

When host Jimmy Fallon probed whether the veteran performer fought back tears during the ceremony, Hawke leaned into self-deprecating humor, quipping that his professional background as an actor did not stop him from trying, and likely struggling, to maintain his composure. The proud father also expressed on The Tonight Show profound admiration for his new son-in-law, offering warm birthday wishes and praising Hutson as an exceptional young man.

The emotional weight of the occasion echoed sentiments Hawke previously shared with Entertainment Tonight following the couple's surprise Valentine's Day union in New York City, where the bride and groom famously strolled the pavement in custom Prada attire. Reflecting on escorting his eldest daughter down the aisle, the actor admitted that the profound depth of the experience left him completely speechless.

While Ethan Hawke had no words to describe his happiness, his daughter, on the other hand, described exactly how she felt about married life in a previous interview.  

Talking about her newlywed status during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in March shortly after the nuptials, Maya Hawke described married life as completely wonderful. Expressing deep appreciation for her current chapter, she shared that she feels profoundly fortunate and overwhelmingly grateful for the joy surrounding her.

The star-studded guest list brought together a tight-knit circle of family and industry peers, featuring attendance from Maya's parents, Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, alongside her younger brother, Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke.
