Welcome to Pikeville, Georgia, where family reunions arrive with police tape, buried secrets, and enough emotional baggage to overwhelm an airport conveyor belt. Peacock's The Good Daughter turns Karin Slaughter's 2017 thriller into a six-episode mystery about sisters Sam and Charlie Quinn, whose childhood was shattered by a violent home invasion.

Two decades later, a deadly school shooting drags the past out of retirement, forcing the estranged lawyers to revisit the nightmare they spent years avoiding. The series premieres November 12, 2026, with all episodes dropping together.

And the cast? Hollywood has apparently dispatched its finest drama veterans and chaos specialists.

Meet the stars and characters of The Good Daughter

Rose Byrne as Samantha "Sam" Quinn: The Physical star plays a New York patent attorney who fled Pikeville after surviving the attack that killed her mother. Her homecoming comes with an exceptionally unwelcome case file.

Meghann Fahy as Charlotte "Charlie" Quinn: Known for The White Lotus, Fahy plays Sam's younger sister, a defense lawyer working alongside their father. A school shooting makes Charlie a crucial witness.

Brendan Gleeson as Rusty Quinn: The Banshees of Inisherin actor portrays the town's divisive defense attorney and Quinn family patriarch. His client list could give a courtroom an instant migraine.

Olivia Williams as Harriet "Gamma" Quinn: The Dune: Prophecy actress plays the sisters' physicist mother, whose curiosity-filled upbringing casts a long shadow over their lives.

Behind those performances sits one tougher question: how do you depict horrifying violence without turning trauma into spectacle?

Karin Slaughter explains how the series handled violence

At an October 29 New York screening, Karin Slaughter told People that protecting her cast and crew was discussed before cameras rolled on The Good Daughter. As showrunner and writer of all six episodes, she wanted the novel's disturbing moments treated with care, rather than sensationalism.

Slaughter described being "very mindful" about what to show, recognizing that the story reflects suffering endured by real people. Director Steph Green, who helmed every episode, helped bring that approach onscreen. No cheap jump-scare trophy required.

Slaughter knows the book-to-screen obstacle course. Her novel Pieces of Her became a 2022 Netflix thriller starring Toni Collette and Bella Heathcote, featuring another daughter confronting long-hidden family secrets.
