From the nightmare corridors of Alien to the neon-soaked dystopia of Blade Runner and the resurrected grandeur of Gladiator, the acclaimed filmmaker has repeatedly reinvented genres, earning three Best Director Oscar nominations along the way.
The Dog Stars cast now adds another sparkling testament, with one star insisting that “nobody else in the world” can film like Scott.

Jacob Elordi essentially declared Ridley Scott a filmmaking species of his own while discussing the director in a promotional video shared by DiscussingFilm on its socials. Elordi revealed that Scott commands roughly 10 cameras, watches their feeds from his trailer, and somehow cuts the movie in his head before the footage has even finished rolling. Hollywood multitasking, apparently, has levels.
“You know, I would argue that he's on everyone's list of cinematic heroes.” Elordi then explained the peculiar magic behind that verdict, describing Scott watching A cam, B cam and C cam before shaping the finished sequence mentally. It is the sort of filmmaking method that makes having a few cameras feel almost comically modest.

Josh Brolin, who almost quite the project due to Ridley Scott, supplied another charming example of Scott’s artist’s eye in the DiscussingFilm promotional video later shared across social media. Brolin recalled explaining a scene while Scott sketched, with the resulting four shots looking almost exactly like the images Brolin had described. Together, Elordi and Brolin’s observations paint Scott as an artist whose visual instincts remain just as distinctive behind the camera as they are on screen.
With such an enthusiastic cast backing Ridley Scott’s vision, the real question now is what the legendary filmmaker has cooked up for The Dog Stars.

Ridley Scott has something rather grand in mind for The Dog Stars, starting with a global theatrical release on August 28, 2026. The filmmaker is teaming with 20th Century Studios and IMAX to make the post-apocalyptic thriller a proper big-screen event, rather than rushing it alongside a streaming debut. Scott is clearly betting on cinema doing the heavy lifting.

Behind that spectacle, Scott has kept the filmmaking remarkably nimble, shooting the movie in just 34 days with his signature multi-camera approach. Yet the director is not chasing spectacle for spectacle’s sake, instead emphasizing quiet character moments, human intimacy, and the “drama, fear, and terror” of survival after a pandemic. That balance could ultimately define what makes The Dog Stars his next intriguing cinematic gamble.
