The Boys has built a massive fandom not just for its thrilling action, but also for its bold antihero narrative. And it seems Antony Starr, who plays the show’s main antagonist Homelander, also has bold takes on superheroes and villains as the show itself. He recently revealed that Thanos is his favorite villain.

However, the actor did not mention Thanos’ awe-inspiring powers like his speed, stamina, and strength. He seemed to relate more with the Mad Titan’s worldview.

In an interview with Wired, Antony Starr revealed that his favorite villain is Thanos. And he went on to discuss the character’s philosophy, jokingly adding that he sometimes relates to it. For those unfamiliar, Thanos believes that unchecked population growth leads to the depletion of useful resources on Earth.

"He was doing a horrific thing, but he had such a good philosophy behind it about balancing the universe. And there's a little part of me that's like, 'He's got a pretty good point,’” he said.

The villain’s extreme solution is to eliminate half the population so the rest can thrive. While Starr made it clear he does not agree with the destruction aspect, he did seem to acknowledge the idea of maintaining balance. And there are certainly several ways to secure balance on Earth that do not involve any harm.

That is not the only controversial take from Antony Starr. He once offered a bold opinion while speaking of one of DC’s biggest superheroes, Batman.

Antony Starr questions Batman’s superhero status

Antony Starr, who plays the worst and scariest antagonist, Homelander, in The Boys, has not shied away when it comes to sharing his take on superheroes. While speaking at a fan event, he revealed that his opinion on Batman has shifted over the years. While he admired the superhero during his childhood, he now feels that Batman is a wealthy guy with gadgets and not a true superhero.

“He's just a guy with a butler and money and a few contraptions, but he's not really, he's not a superhero,” he said at the Denver 2024 Fan Expo.

Now, many might not agree with Starr. However, the actor's opinion seems to be part of growing up. Over time, many realize the true strength of superheroes is their courage and not extraordinary powers or abilities.

That said, he is not completely dismissive of the character. He even shared excitement about Batman in James Gunn's new DC Universe. And that is the shining example of how even after growing up, these characters, such as Batman or Superman, hold a special place in hearts.
