During the The Boys Los Angeles premiere, several cast members, including Jensen Ackles, were asked about the show’s ending. And he said that he is not satisfied with the show's ending. While Ackles is set to reprise his character, Soldier Boy, in the spin-off series Vought Rising, he admitted that he wanted more episodes of The Boys.
“No, because it's ending, But I want more, I want season six and seven and eight,” he said.
Erin Moriarty, who played Annie January in The Boys, said she was satisfied with the ending for “selfish reasons,” which is understandable considering her character finally received a long-awaited happy ending. However, Tomer Capone, whose character Frenchie suffered a heartbreaking death in the final season, also described the finale as an exciting ending.
“I think we gave you guys one hell of a ride,” he said.
Colby Minifie, who played Ashley Barrett in The Boys, also seemed impressed with the ending. Minifie, whose character finally picks a side in season 5 episode 8, said she was satisfied with both Ashley’s arc and the overall ending, adding that the show managed to tie up all the loose ends. As for Laz Alonso, who played Mother's Milk in the series, he also appeared satisfied with the direction of the story.
“I'm satisfied because we were able to end it on our terms,” Alonso said.
“I'm very satisfied,” Cameron Crovetti, who played Ryan, said. “When I got the script, and I read it, I was like jumping up, and I was like, this is sick.”
“I'm really grateful for how the show ended,” Susan Heyward, who plays Sister Sage, said.
The ending of The Boys has sparked much discussion, and even showrunner Eric Kripke admitted that he was under immense pressure while writing the show’s finale.
Eric Kripke was candid about the pressure of creating The Boys' ending
Eric Kripke explained that the ending of The Boys could define the show’s entire legacy, and he was afraid of repeating the mistakes made by other series finales. That pressure pushed him to focus on creating a fitting conclusion to The Boys.
“I approached it with absolute terror ... I was not confident ... because people do a weird thing where they retroactively judge a show based on the finale,” Kripke told The River.

Regardless of the cast’s positive comments, the final season and episode still faced criticism from viewers. Episode 7 currently holds the lowest IMDb rating of the season with a 6.3, while the finale episode has a 6.7 rating. Despite the backlash, Kripke appeared confident in giving the characters an appropriate ending, which he said had been his focus from the very beginning.
