After nearly seven years of waiting, Star Wars made a comeback on the big screens with The Mandalorian and Grogu, but it failed to reach the already established glory of the franchise in the theatres. With just $345 million in lifetime global collection, it became the lowest-grossing live-action Star Wars film in history of the franchise. Now, the love it failed to find at the box office, The Mandalorian and Grogu have set out to find in digital streaming.  

Disney has just announced the streaming release date for The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The Force is about to bring The Mandalorian and Grogu from a galaxy far, far away straight to Disney+. The Jon Favreau-directed movie, which debuted in theaters on May 22 and follows bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his apprentice Grogu as they are recruited by officer Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver) to aid the New Republic, will be accessible for streaming on Disney+ beginning on September 2.

In order to locate an Imperial leader, the unusual pair must save Rotta the Hutt, the heir to Jabba the Hutt (voiced by Jeremy Allen White of The Bear). Martin Scorsese, who plays fry cook Hugo Durant in a cameo, is another iconic addition to the cast. However, this is not his first rodeo in Star Wars, as the director has previously worked with the franchise in Solo: A Star Wars Story, when he played the part of cook Rio Durant for a limited period of time.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will finally be available on Disney+ on Wednesday, September 2, according to a recent listing. A little more than three months after its theatrical release, the film will be available on Disney+ precisely 103 days later. Fans of The Mandalorian can currently see the science fiction film at home by renting it or purchasing it from the typical VOD retailers. The movie will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on August 25 for fans of tangible media.

The film follows a pretty simple timeline, as it comes from the same director who helmed the original series.

The Mandalorian and Grogu follows the Disney+ original series The Mandalorian season 3 and Ahsoka season 1. Dave Filoni, who was promoted to president of Lucasfilm earlier this year when Kathleen Kennedy left, co-wrote the movie with Jon Favreau. Pedro Pascal provides the voice of Mando, but stuntmen Lateef Crowder and Brendan Wayne handled most of the stunts and the physical labor.

The Rise of Skywalker, which made $1 billion worldwide in 2019, was the last Star Wars film before The Mandalorian and Grogu. Now, the franchise has tied all its expectations to Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Shawn Levy. It is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027.
