Hollywood just loves to take an inspiring real-life story and turn it into a cinematic masterpiece, and this love affair is not something new; it has been there for ages. It is one of the greatest passions of the entertainment industry to bring the lives of notable individuals, as well as some less notable ones, to the big screen.
This year will not be any different, with the 2026 slate of releases being packed with some of the most amazing biopic dramas.

Marc by Sofia is a documentary film by the very talented Sofia Coppola that goes beyond the external persona of the renowned fashion designer and her close friend of thirty years, Marc Jacobs. The film, which debuted at the Venice Film Festival, takes the audience through the creative genius of Jacobs’ 2024 spring collection. This kind of goes astray from the standard biographical framing, but it is about the real-life story of a real-life man. The movie is set for a March 20 release this year.
Mr. Burton
Mr. Burton is a biographical drama film that explores the early life of Welsh actor Richard Burton and his relationship with his mentor Philip Burton. The film was nominated for the Outstanding British Film category at the 2026 BAFTAs alongside movies like Hamnet, Pillion, and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. The film is produced by Severn Screen and has Harry Lawtey and Toby Jones in the lead roles. The movies will release on March 20 in the US.
Lorne
Oscar-winning director Morgan Neville brings this documentary about Lorne Michaels, the mastermind behind one of the longest-running shows, Saturday Night Live. The movie, which will hit theaters on April 17, offers a close-up view of Michaels' life and work. With 113 statuettes over the previous 50 years, SNL is the most Emmy-awarded show in television history. Last year, it celebrated its 50th anniversary with a star-studded gala.
Kapodistrias
This one is a Greek historical epic helmed by director Yannis Smaragdis. The movie follows the life of the great Greek statesman and diplomat, Ioannis Kapodistrias, who became the first governor of Greece after it regained freedom from the Ottoman Empire. It is one of the biggest productions from Greek cinema and will hit the theaters on April 22 for the American audience.
Michael
Probably the most anticipated biopic of the year, the movie attempts to bring the larger-than-life story of the global pop icon Michael Jackson. The Equalizer series and Training Day fame Antoine Fuqua has directed this film, and Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson has portrayed the role of the King of Pop. The movie is set to release on April 24, and people cannot wait to see how the director approaches the life story of such a mythical figure.
I Swear
The BAFTA-winning biopic, which stars Robert Aramayo, takes viewers through the struggles of Scottish activist John Davidson, who was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome. The movie focuses on bringing to light his efforts to raise awareness about the illness. The movie, which will be released on April 24, is a tale of perseverance and empathy.
Young Washington
Young Washington is about America’s first leader, George Washington. The movie chronicles his life as a young man who experiences a terrible setback that molds him into a modern-day leader. William Franklyn-Miller plays the 22-year-old Founding Father in the film. The biopic, which releases on July 3, mostly explores his origin story, detailing how he developed into a leader, learned from his mistakes, and contributed to the formation of the United States.
The Social Reckoning
The Social Reckoning, which is a sequel to the incredible 2010 biographical drama The Social Network, is set to release on October 9th. This time, Jeremy Strong will play Mark Zuckerberg in the movie. Other important cast members include Anora's Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White from The Bear, and Bill Burr. Aaron Sorkin, who previously wrote the screenplay for the first film, will write and direct this much-awaited sequel.
Jimmy
Riverdale star KJ Apa is set to bring to life the magnanimous personality of the legendary Jimmy Stewart, known for It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), Rear Window (1954), The Philadelphia Story (1940), and so on. The rest of the cast includes Jason Alexander, Max Casella, Sarah Drew, Julian Works, and Jen Lilley in important roles. The biopic will grace the big screen on November 6th of this year.
I Play Rocky
As the title suggests, it is a biopic of the Rocky star Sylvester Stallone. Helmed by Peter Farrelly and backed by Amazon MGM, the movie attempts to bring forth the remarkable story behind the creation and making of the original Rocky movie.
