Director Travis Knight dropped an honest response about the complexities surrounding the potential of a sequel to Masters of the Universe, while also expressing hope for the franchise’s future. Knight’s film is the franchise’s second live-action adaptation, arriving decades after the original 1987 movie. Starring Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, the film was one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
Following its theatrical run, the movie arrived on Prime Video and became a major hit. And there are already conversations about whether the story will continue with a sequel. However, as Knight’s comment suggests, bringing a second instalment to life may require a little more than the power of Grayskull.

In his conversation with Screen Rant’s Tatiana Hullender, Travis Knight was asked about the possibility of a sequel to Masters of the Universe. The director expressed his desire to continue the story with the same characters. While he shared his gratitude for the opportunity to make the film and the experience, Knight revealed that the decision to move forward with a sequel does not rest in his hands.
“In the end, these sorts of decisions are out of our control, you always imagine where these people’s lives go after the end of the movie, and if the universe, in its wisdom, asks us to make more of these things, we would be delighted to give them more,” he said.

A sequel to the movie will also likely depend on the success of the original. While the film secured a 67% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, it failed to make an impact at the box office, earning around $114 million. However, the movie, which arrived on Prime Video after its theatrical run this year, enjoyed massive streaming success, claiming the top spot in the movie rankings for five consecutive weeks.
Now, the director appears hopeful about continuing the story during his interview with ScreenRant. Moreover, his hopes for a sequel were also evident from the post-credit scenes in Masters of the Universe.
Masters of the Universe post-credit scenes came with hints
Masters of the Universe surprised audiences with three post-credit scenes. The first had a nostalgic moment with a glimpse of Orko, who does not appear throughout the film. The second and third scenes, meanwhile, hinted at the possibility of a sequel. The second post-credit scene featured the back of a character whom fans were quick to recognise as She-Ra.

The third showed the evil witch Evil-Lyn holding Skeletor’s disembodied head, hinting that he could return in a potential sequel. So, there are plenty of storylines and threats that could become the focus of a follow-up. But the decision to move forward with a sequel ultimately rests with the production house.
