Despite winning over critics and audiences alike with a critically acclaimed freshman run - culminating in an impressive 11 Emmy nominations - the stylish live-action series Spider-Noir has officially come to an end. Following a single season on screen, the ambitious black-and-white superhero spinoff has been cancelled, falling victim to the heavy financial realities of its towering budget colliding with modest overall viewership numbers.

While it seems that the Spider-Noir actor, Nicolas Cage, has made his peace with Amazon Prime’s excruciating decision, apparently this does not apply to the fans who have made their sentiments pretty clear online. The news of the show's cancellation and especially his departure has not sat well with them.

Despite the cancellation, Nicolas Cage said he was happy that the show only had one season in a statement to Deadline. His remark conveys his happiness with the production's final direction and portrays the first season as a full creative experience. He said in his statement:

“For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man. Onwards, upwards, inwards.”

His words to Deadline seemed more like an acceptance of the current circumstances - a response to a poorly dealt hand that he knows he has no command over. But the fans of the show are not yet ready to accept things for what they are, and they have spoken their mind in the comments section of an X post by Film Updates featuring Cage’s statement.

Fans have explicitly expressed their disappointment over the decision to do away with Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir.

The kind of acclaim and love Spider-Noir got did not reflect in Amazon Prime’s viewership numbers. And that is why the decision to discontinue the series was made. However, the fanbase that it did manage to amass connected deeply with Nicolas Cage’s 1930s-styled detective Ben Rielly. That is why seeing him leave is kind of sad and painful for them, which they make pretty evident in the comments section of the X post.

“Uhh no… one season is only perfect when you’re watching She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” wrote a fan.

“Nick Cage was perfect in that role, I hate that we'll most likely never see him play Spider-Man again,” said another.

"Nicolas Cage as a middle-aged Spider-Man was anything but boring. You made him so hilariously relatable! Hahaha, everyone is going to be ripping off your playbook from now on," claimed one user.

“Well, that’s lame,” asserted one.

While many grieved, there were some who thought that one season is a great way of ending things.

“One season was the perfect runway for that fit, no need to overstay the drip,” opined one fan.

“I’m happy this crossed my feed. Nice one,” expressed another.

For many, the departure of Spider-Noir and Nicolas Cage with it will leave a void that will be hard to fill. Even though the show has been cancelled, there is still hope that Cage’s Spider-Man can still appear in multiverse projects from Marvel and Sony. There is a solid chance that he might just appear one more time in the next Miles Morales outing in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
