Iain Armitage may have spent nearly seven years playing the boy genius Sheldon Cooper, but do not expect him to follow the character into adulthood anytime soon. The Young Sheldon star recently admitted that playing a 23-year-old Sheldon in a show would be a nightmare, bluntly declaring that the idea would “suck.” After growing up alongside the iconic character, Armitage seems perfectly happy leaving the idea of playing an adult Sheldon in a show.
As Iain Armitage looks back on the end of the beloved sitcom, he has also opened up about his feelings on saying goodbye.

Iain Armitage has made it clear that there was one place he had no desire to revisit: a television set where he would have to play a 23-year-old Sheldon Cooper. The actor was perfectly content with how Young Sheldon wrapped up and did not feel the need to stretch the story further. After all, there was a whole world beyond the Cooper family waiting for him to explore.
“I would hate to be on a show playing 23-year-old Sheldon. That would suck. I would not want to do that, he said.
Armitage was not particularly interested in mourning the sitcom's conclusion, either. In an interview featured in Jessica Radloff's upcoming book, Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy, released on October 23, he explained that dwelling on the ending felt “heavy and annoying and weird” when he had so much life left to live. He wanted to travel, spend time in Virginia, and pursue whatever movie opportunities came his way.

Armitage also made it clear that moving on did not mean leaving behind his affection for the people who made the sitcom special. He missed the Warner Bros. lot, the crew, and the colleagues he had grown to love, even if he was not particularly nostalgic about individual moments. For the young actor, the bigger picture mattered more than any single memory, and the future held plenty of possibilities.
Beyond reflecting on Young Sheldon’s ending and he himself being difficult on set, Iain Armitage is ready to turn the page with his upcoming projects.

With Young Sheldon behind him, Iain Armitage is beginning to explore what comes next, and his upcoming projects offer a change of pace from the sitcom that defined much of his childhood. The actor is attached to The Adam Trials, a psychological thriller with a science-fiction edge starring Martin Freeman. Armitage plays a terminally ill son whose parents turn to experimental nanotechnology in a desperate attempt to save him.

Another project on Armitage’s résumé was Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, in which he completed voice work reprising his role as Young Shaggy. However, Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the finished animated feature, leaving audiences unable to see his performance. With his interest in travelling, acting in movies, and taking on fresh opportunities, Armitage appears ready to let Sheldon Cooper remain a chapter of his life rather than its defining role.
